What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machine Operator - Grinding position at Amsted Rail Company?
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To accomplish this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
- Adhere to plant-wide safety, ergonomics and environmental requirements, defined by Amsted Rail; outlined by the Amsted Rail Health & Safety program.
- Consistently produce repeat and new first run parts, within specifications while working with minimal supervision.
- Setup and verify gauging, in accordance with the gage card.
- Measure dimensions of processed work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using gauges.
- Check condition of grinding wheels for defects, cracks or chips.
- Assist Setup personnel with the changeover of grinding lines.
- Select and safely use hand and power tools.
- Select and set program for machine operation.
- Remove and replace worn grinding wheels.
- Operate a forklift to stage part bins for processing.
- Lift work pieces to load work pieces manually or with hoists or cranes.
- Monitor transfer conveyors and gantry devices for proper operation.
- Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by worn grinding wheels or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems.
- Adjust or change: machine parameters, diamonds or grinding wheels when parts or machine do not meet specification.
- Record production run data.
- Understand operational sequences and dimensions of finished work pieces.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks on equipment as assigned by leadership.
- Clean, maintain and store tooling and equipment.
- Maintain strong communications with fellow operators, setup personnel, maintenance, engineering and supervisors.
- Tag and segregate non-conforming parts.
- Troubleshoot part compliance and equipment problems, enlisting the assistance of the Setup Operator, leadership or Maintenance as needed.
- Perform basic housekeeping (including 6S) to keep area clean and safe, including the monitoring of scrap containers.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidate must be able to lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs. occasionally, wear required PPE and be able to stand, move throughout shift.
