What are the responsibilities and job description for the Traffic and ITS Engineer position at AMT Engineering?
We are looking for a Traffic Design Engineer with experience in Traffic Signal, ITS/Smart Mobility Design to support the design and plan development for transportation projects. The position has the flexibility to allow for either advancement into Project Management or a Technical Lead position within the company.
This role is a great mix of R&D, hands-on field work, and interesting design in the office. You'll rarely be bored and AMT pays overtime if you want to keep working after 40 hours.
You'll be directly supported by two friendly multi-state PE's with a long background in design, signal timings, and transit. We'll let you fly a drone in this job too.
Responsibilities
- NCDOT and SCDOT traffic signal, lighting, and ITS design
- Traffic signal retimings across the Carolinas (including implementation and hands-on field fine-tuning)
- Support and first-line supervision of new EI's/EIT's
- Additional signal, lighting, and ITS design across the Appalachian region
- Testing of signal and ITS equipment designs
- Research and bench-testing of a multitude of interesting traffic technology
- Drone pilot
Qualifications
- You have to be interested in Traffic Signals and ITS. This is non-negotiable. :)
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program is required; Civil and Electrical is preferred but we're interested in you if you're interested in Traffic Signals and ITS
- A PE is preferred, but we'll consider EI's/EIT's that can obtain a license in NC and SC within 6 months.
- Design experience in Bentley CADD products that you can demonstrate if requested
- Must provide references from PE's who can confirm your capabilities
- You can present yourself well and communicate professionally

- You have an IMSA Traffic Signal II certification
- You like flying drones and have your FAA Part 107

- You have some knowledge of traffic theory, queuing theory, electrical circuitry, systems engineering, or simulation software.
