Job Summary:
The Skilled Trades Manager will oversee and coordinate the daily operations of highly skilled maintenance and tooling staff while ensuring that company objectives and goals are met.
Job Responsibilities:
- Directly supports tool room including hands-on oversight of department.
- Directly responsible for tool room operations including die repair, die maintenance, supervision of tool and die makers, development of apprentices and apprenticeship program, tool room systems and equipment and that tool room resources follow priorities for production and launch requirements
- Directly supports maintenance including hands-on oversight of department.
- Coordinate skilled trades’ resources to assure plant production and facilities are kept in good operating condition.
- Oversee and coordinate the trades who maintain and repair; mechanical, electrical, plumbing, hydraulic, tooling and other building systems. Responsible for evaluating problematic systems or facilities and determining what installation or repair services need to be performed by initiating outside services as needed.
- Facilitates communication among clients/customers and engineers, ensuring specifications, budgets, and deadlines are clearly communicated and understood.
- Serves as project manager for multiple projects, creating timelines and cost projections, organizing collaborative meetings, and ensuring projects comply with specifications, timelines, and budgets.
- Assures safe and reliable process and product launches which comply with applicable governmental, industry, and company standards and minimize potential liability costs.
- Reviews work and projects for technical accuracy.
- Establishes, implements, and maintains administrative policies, procedures, and standards.
- Prepares and executes departmental budget.
- Negotiates contracts with outside vendors.
- Maintains knowledge of new trends, developments, technologies, materials, and best practices; applies this knowledge to continually improve product lines and production efficiency.
- Develop and organize preventative maintenance and safety inspection programs for all facilities, tools and equipment.
- Review Equipment needs in advance for budgetary and capital expenditures
- Support tooling integration into the manufacturing process to ensure a successful product launch.
- Identify areas where efficiency may be improved, to include making recommendations to management. Attend and participate in planning meetings and identifying areas of continuous improvement.
Education, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum five years of related experience required.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficient with computer-aided drafting (CAD) software.
