Chief Estimator

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Chief Estimator with a strong background in heavy highway and civil construction. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the estimating department, developing accurate bids, and securing profitable projects. The ideal candidate has a proven track record in earthwork, utilities, roads, and bridges, with expertise in cost estimating, subcontractor negotiations, and bid preparation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the estimating team in preparing accurate and competitive bids for heavy highway and civil infrastructure projects
- Analyze project specifications, blueprints, and proposals to develop cost estimates
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and risk factors in project scopes
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure competitive and complete bids
- Utilize estimating software and tools to optimize the estimating process
- Oversee the development of takeoffs, budgets, and schedules for project proposals
- Stay up to date on industry trends, material costs, and labor rates
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of estimating experience in heavy highway and civil construction
- Strong knowledge of earthwork, utilities, paving, and structural concrete
- Proficiency in estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, or similar
- Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
