The Health & Safety Specialist serves as a resource for AMVAC’s Axis, AL personnel and will administer a proactive program that assures facility-wide compliance for Federal OSHA and Local and State Regulations including corporate objectives for safety and production. AMVAC’s manufacturing plant at Axis operates 24x7x365.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Educate and define Health and Safety policies and procedures to assure facility-wide compliance for the Axis manufacturing plant and surrounding sites
- Assist in updating Health & Safety procedures
- Conduct weekly safety audits of the plant, track action items and submit reports
- Perform daily walk-arounds of the plant to ensure that employees and contractors are following all Health & Safety policies
- Audit Company and contractor equipment; document for compliance
- Review and approve hot work permits, safe work permits, confined space permits and critical lift plans
- Recover and store closed permits for document retention
- Facilitate new hire, annual and post-incident training for all AMVAC personnel and on-site contractors
- Assist with new-hire orientation meetings and provide safety training at all levels
- In conjunction with the lead investigator, assist the initiation and follow-up of incident investigation for closure and resolution
- Work closely with the Health and Safety manager to monitor and improve company objectives
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory Health and Safety requirements and with all regulatory environmental requirements
- Comply with all company policies, practices and lawful directives
- Perform other assignments as necessary and directed by management
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- 3 years’ safety experience in an OSHA regulated, industrial / manufacturing environment
- Experience working with chemicals; hazardous materials and/or incorporating PSM standards
- Knowledge and ability to communicate OSHA regulations - Federal, State and Local
- OSHA 510 or 511 trainings / certifications beneficial
- Experience working with EPA, DTSC, CUPA, Sanitations District, County & State agencies
- Strong philosophy, principles and practices of risk management
- Working knowledge of health & safety regulations pertaining to air; water; storm water; wastewater; solid, universal, and hazardous wastes; pesticides
- Excellent communication skills (Verbal & Written)
- Strong computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint required); Velocity EHS a plus
- Must be able to participate in the respiratory program and able to wear a respirator when safety needs dictate
- Be able to work during off‐hours to meet business needs and support a 24/7 operating plant
- Must participate in random drug tests and safety monthly blood draw program
- Must be able to pass physical and approved pre-employment criminal background check
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree required - Engineering, Science or Health & Safety degree preferred
- CSP (or ability to obtain within 3-4 years)
