AMVAC, an American Vanguard company has an opportunity for a Process Engineer at Amvac’s chemical manufacturing plant in Axis, AL.
As a part of the Engineering Department, the Process Engineer is responsible for all aspects of process engineering including startup, troubleshooting and production of chemical products at AMVAC’s Axis manufacturing plant. The Process Engineer provides support for Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and other facets of the safety program including PSM. The Process Engineer also assures proper process information is developed, reviewed and made available to the engineering and management teams.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support and make improvements to operations through process troubleshooting and optimization
- Provide engineering documentation for sizing of basic process equipment, i.e., pumps, valves, motors, etc.
- Provide support for plant PSM (Process Safety Management) systems
- Assist on design and deployment of capital projects and plant start-ups
- Collect and document operating data for production campaigns
- Develop major equipment specifications
- Perform hydraulic calculations and analysis
- Work with the Technology (R&D) group to develop new process designs and production solutions
- Development of PFDs (Process Flow Diagrams)
- Assist in PHA (Process Hazard Analysis) reviews
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory safety and environmental requirements
- Comply with all company policies, practices and lawful directives
- Performs other assignments as necessary and directed by management
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering (B.S. ChE) required
- Master’s degree is preferred
Experience Requirements:
- 1 year chemical plant experience desired
- Experience in industrial or manufacturing setting with a technical understanding of plant operations and plant optimization preferred
- Ability to read and understand P&ID's
- Knowledge of process design preferred
- Ability to use Aspen simulator and hydraulic calculation software a plus
- Knowledge of distillation processes
- Ability to learn to troubleshoot process equipment and instrumentation
- Able to work as a team member as well as independently
- Must have excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
- Lean manufacturing and/or continuous improvement methodology knowledge and/or experience preferred
- This position may require to work nights and/or weekends as job duties demand
- Must participate in random drug tests and participate in the Safety monthly blood draw program
- Pass post‐offer drug test, background check and other appropriate tests as required
