What are the responsibilities and job description for the Donation Pick-up Driver position at AMVETS Department of California Service Foundation?

We are looking for a capable Full Time donation pickup driver. You will be driving to local and distant routes to pick up donations and to deliver the donations to the company’s Thrift Store.

Pay range: $17.50 - 17.50

Responsibilities included but not limited to:

  • Drive Box Truck to pick up donations such as clothing, furniture and electronic goods from AMVETS Donors.
  • Record Transaction and provide the customer a donation receipt.
  • Record pickup and/or delivery information in daily logs/records.
  • Performs recycling deliveries.
  • Be an ambassador of while picking up and delivery of donated goods.
  • Loads and Unloads Truck.
  • Understands and adheres to the "DO NOT ACCEPT" list.
  • Maintains the company’s truck in a clean, orderly & safe manner.
  • Inspects and cleans inside and outside of truck.
  • Insures routine maintenance on truck and equipment.

Requirements

  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License with no recent moving or driving violations
  • Proven driving experience
  • Ability to DOT (Dept of Transportation) Certified
  • Willing to submit to background check/drug and physical check
  • Ability to sit and drive long periods
  • Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations such as Traffic, Weather Conditions
  • Packing/Moving items from homes/business Must be willing to travel locally
  • Must be able to work any day of the week, including weekends, early evenings and holidays
  • Team Player with Exceptional Organizational Skills
  • Ability to lift, pull, push, carry heavy products
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Some College is a plus
  • Ability to read, write and understand English
  • Ability to perform simple mathematical functions
  • Former and Active US Military is a plus

AMVETS Department of California Service Foundation is a California 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that fundraises for the charitable purpose of providing programs and services to California veterans and their families and financial support to department and post programs, as well as other organizations that also serve and assist veterans.

AMVETS Thrift Stores

AMVETS Department of California Service Foundation owns and operates thrift stores that sell second-hand goods at reduced prices throughout Southern California and in the Central Valley. We accept gently used donations including clothing and accessories, jewelry, household items, small appliances, electronics, and furniture. Donations can be dropped off at a donation bin or thrift store donation center or scheduled for residential pick-up. Donations are tax deductible.

Veterans Services

Through the sale of donated goods to our AMVETS Thrift Stores, as well as other contributions and grants, AMVETS Department of California Service Foundation employs Veterans Service Officers accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs to assist California veterans and eligible dependents with information, counseling and claims services related to education, disability compensation, pension and other benefits at no cost.

Programs

The Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Housing and Urban Development HUD-VASH Program combine case management and clinical services with housing voucher rental assistance for homeless veterans and their families. In partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs, AMVETS Department of California Service Foundation founded the Welcome Home Program to provide the once-homeless veterans and their families with furniture, appliances and other household items for their new homes. We also fund other programs for homeless veterans, women veterans, education, vocational rehabilitation and employment, and military funerals.
