This position is based in the Metairie, AL office and reports to the director of claims.

Job Description
The Claims Supervisor oversees a team of claims specialists responsible for managing workers' compensation claims, ensuring timely and efficient processing of claims while adhering to company policies and governmental regulations, including reviewing claim details, monitoring caseloads, providing training to specialists, and communicating with injured employees, employers, and healthcare providers to facilitate a smooth claims process and minimize costs.
This position is based in the Metairie, AL office and reports to the director of claims.
Job Responsibilities
- Leading and supervising a team of claims specialist (CS) handling various complexities of USL&H, MEL, and Statutory state workers' compensation claims.
- Assigning cases to CSs based on workload and expertise
- Monitoring individual CS performance, providing feedback and coaching to ensure quality claim handling
- Conducting regular one on one meetings and identifying areas for improvement
- Reviewing claim files to ensure compliance with company policies, governmental regulations, and best practices
- Identifying potential issues or fraudulent claims and taking appropriate action
- Analyzing claim data to identify trends and areas for cost reduction
- Approving claim settlements within designated authority levels
- Maintaining open communication with injured employees, employers, healthcare providers, and legal counsel regarding claim status
- Collaborating with the safety department to identify and address workplace hazards that may contribute to injuries
- Collaborating with Underwriting and Managing Directors to have a complete understanding of the effects that claims outcomes have on individual accounts and company success
- Providing ongoing training to CSs on new regulations, company policies, and best practices for claim handling
- Identifying training needs and developing training programs for the claims team
- Generating reports on claim metrics, including cost trends, caseloads, and claim resolution times
- Monitoring and managing claim reserving practices
- Assist claims specialists with preparation for external meetings including coaching on presentation skills
- Medical managed care and/or medical billing experience preferred
- Strong understanding of workers' compensation laws and regulations
- Experience in claims adjusting and case management
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with various stakeholders
- Analytical skills to evaluate claim information and make informed decisions
- Possess strong sense of accountability and pride
- Demonstrate outstanding problem-solving, critical thinking, and organizational abilities
- Leadership abilities to motivate and manage a team of claims specialists
- Understanding of AEU corporate culture and claims handling philosophy
- Proficient in computer skills including MS Excel
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 5 years’ experience in handling WC claims
- Licensed in home state or other designated state
- Multiple state licenses are a plus
- This is an in-office position located in Metairie, LA
