Position Summary
The Managing Director (MD) is the main point of contact for their assigned brokers and insureds. The MD is responsible for ensuring their brokers and insureds understand that AEU’s value is superior to that of other carriers. Additional responsibilities include driving the performance of their book, as well as mining all new business opportunities at their assigned brokerages. The MD works closely with the Underwriter and Associate Underwriter to outline broker and insured strategies. The MD focuses on relationships with their customers, driving AEU’s culture, providing feedback for innovations, and helping AEU to constantly push forward to be the best provider of USL&H.
This position reports to the Chief Commercial Officer.

Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and foster long-term, trusting relationships with network of brokers and insureds.
- Lead team of Underwriter and Assistant Underwriters by providing guidance, leadership, and knowledge to create, implement, and maintain account strategies.
- Work closely with AEU’s leadership team, providing progress updates, market and industry insights, and strategies to achieve set goals.
- Drive specific insured strategy with Claims Specialists and Loss Control Managers.
- Express strong personal and professional integrity.
- Exercise oversight of potential losses and risks to ensure longevity of the book.
- Comfortable with conflict and able to resolve difficult situations whether internally or externally by thoughtfully listening to all perspectives and working to resolve with all parties’ positions in mind.
- Confidently present to both small and large groups, showcasing product knowledge and persuasively articulating value propositions.
- Maintain an assertive sales presence, actively engaging with clients to understand their needs and provide dependable tailored solutions.
- Work experience – 10 years
- Ability to travel – Responsibility is a heavy USA West Coast book of business and in-person visits with insureds and brokers are required on a regular basis
