We’re seeking an experienced and dynamic Strategic Partnerships Director to drive our B2B commercial strategy and lead key partnerships with global enterprises.
This role is responsible for responsible for developing and executing Amyris’ business-to-business commercial partnership strategy, including account management, new collaboration identification, negotiation of multi-million-dollar R&D projects and sales of ingredients and licenses into channels such as F&F, Beauty & Personal Care (BCP), Food & Beverage and Specialty Chemicals.
Manage strategic partnerships with large multinationals with P&L responsibility for >$200M in annual revenue. Develops and initiates new partnerships to drive continued Amyris revenue growth, and builds the partnership team capabilities through people choices, coaching and day-to-day leadership.

Location: Remote (U.S. based) with a strong preference for candidates in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Responsibilities
- Commercial Management:
- Oversee all primary engagement with strategic partners
- Develop & deliver critical updates and communication to partners
- Execute continued operational improvements for all responsible business areas
- Responsible for both ingredient sales and R&D collaboration revenue including >10 existing and ongoing commercial partnering programs across more than 5 established and multiple additional potential partnerships
Business Operations & Ingredient Sales:- Ownership for Demand Management S&OP coordination & manufacturing planning
- o Business direction for customer service and supply chain
- Strong multi-level account and contact plans
- Keen understanding of value chain dynamics, trends, competitive activity
- Oversee product introductions & transition for ingredients
- Manage commercial support for production audits & business continuity initiatives
- Coordinate joint Regulatory alignment & strategy
- Continued scoping of biotechnology & relevant industry competitive intelligence
- Manage all elements of cash flow through accurate demand, pricing, volume growth and cash collection
Technical/Collaboration Updates:- Quarterly review & preparation for Joint Steering Committee meetings across partner portfolio
- Quality, PD & technical alignment for external communications
- Drive product specification development, negotiation, and alignment
- Develop commercial strategy for new R&D project proposals, including cost/benefit analysis and maximization of value to Amyris
Business Development:- Lead partner identification and collaboration structure development for new R&D projects within existing partnership portfolio and expansion with new strategic partners
- Oversight of market research (new targets) and financial modeling (existing & new targets) for continued portfolio optimization & resource deployment
- Collaboration agreement negotiation & implementation through launch of new ingredients to target markets
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in scientific or engineering field; MBA strongly preferred.
- 12 years of relevant industry experience in business development and B2B key account management
- Proven track record negotiating and managing multi-million-dollar partnerships and R&D collaborations.
- Key account and strategic project management
- Commercial strategy development and necessary technical skills to deploy solutions for complex issues consistent with organizational goals
- People management experience to support continued career development of direct reports
- Significant cross-functional collaboration required internally and in partner-facing interactions Ability to work independently and taking ownership of commercial objectives and deliverables
- Clear written and verbal communication

- Experience in the Flavor & Fragrance industry
Amyris is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.
The pay range for this role is $156,000 to $261,000 (National) and $190,000 to $286,000 (SF Bay Area). Including up to 25% bonus potential. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis, and will vary based on the candidate’s skills, depth of experience and specific work location.
