About the Job:
The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing routine blood drawing procedures including collecting, logging, processing, and reporting on all client test specimens for analysis or other medical purposes. Ensures accuracy and promptness in reporting test results and maintenance of current lab documentation.Roles and Responsibilities:
Shift/Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8:00am-2:00pm
Education/Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s degree preferred.
- Previous experience in behavioral healthcare setting with knowledge of client population served by the facility preferred.
- Professional certification preferred or required in some states.
- CPR and de-escalation certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
- First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.
Job Duties:
- Assembles and maintains equipment such as tourniquet, needles, disposable containers for needles, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work tray, according to requirements for specified tests and procedures.
- Collects client samples timely with minimal discomfort to the client and samples are packaged correctly for safe transport.
- Records phlebotomy requisitions.
- Identifies the client by comparing client information on the requisition to the client’s identification band before venipuncture is performed to ensure proper labeling of the blood sample for testing and processing.
- Documents information related to samples/tubes drawn, collection date and times correctly and in accordance with departmental policy.
- Disposes all sharp instruments in rigid sharp container.
- Cleans and supplies venipuncture trays. Keeps work areas clean and sanitary.
- Orders supplies as needed.
- Removes all phlebotomy supplies from unit/client’s room.
- Enters client information into database.
- Assembles and maintains medical instruments such as needles, test tubes and blood vials.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
