Description : Job Overview :
A Junior Wireless Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of wireless networks. This entry-level role provides an opportunity to work with wireless technologies and gain hands-on experience with Wi-Fi networks, troubleshooting wireless connectivity issues, and assisting in wireless network projects. The Junior Wireless Engineer works closely with senior engineers to ensure that wireless networks meet the performance, security, and coverage needs of the organization.
Key Responsibilities :
Wireless Network Installation & Configuration :
- Assist in the installation, configuration, and deployment of wireless access points (APs), controllers, and other wireless network components.
- Help configure wireless networks, ensuring proper SSID setup, security settings (e.g., WPA2, WPA3), and network segmentation.
- Support in setting up wireless bridges and point-to-point links as needed.
Wireless Network Troubleshooting :
Assist in diagnosing and resolving wireless connectivity issues, including interference, signal drops, and bandwidth limitations.Perform wireless site surveys to identify and resolve coverage gaps or interference issues.Utilize tools such as Wi-Fi analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and signal strength testers to identify and troubleshoot issues.Wireless Network Optimization :
Monitor wireless network performance and assist in identifying areas for optimization, such as adjusting channel settings, power levels, or AP placement.Support the optimization of wireless networks to ensure high-performance standards, minimal latency, and high availability.Wireless Security :
Assist in the implementation of wireless security protocols, including encryption, authentication methods, and access controls.Help monitor and maintain security standards for wireless networks, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry best practices.Assist in identifying and resolving potential security threats or vulnerabilities within the wireless infrastructure.Documentation & Reporting :
Document network configurations, installations, changes, and troubleshooting steps for future reference.Assist in creating network diagrams and detailed reports on wireless network performance, coverage, and any issues identified.Keep accurate records of wireless network assets, including access points, controllers, and related components.Collaboration & Learning :
Work closely with senior wireless engineers and other IT staff to learn and apply wireless networking best practices and new technologies.Assist with larger wireless network projects, including wireless upgrades and expansions.Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and other opportunities to improve wireless networking skills and knowledge.Support & Customer Service :
Provide support to end-users or clients experiencing wireless connectivity issues, offering solutions to improve their network experience.Offer remote troubleshooting and on-site assistance as required.Requirements : Technical Skills :
Basic understanding of wireless networking concepts, including Wi-Fi standards (802.11a / b / g / n / ac / ax), radio frequencies (2.4GHz, 5GHz), and network protocols.Familiarity with wireless access points, controllers, and network monitoring tools (e.g., Ekahau, AirMagnet, Wireshark).Knowledge of wireless security protocols (e.g., WPA2, WPA3, 802.1X) and best practices.Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills :
Strong troubleshooting skills, particularly with wireless networks and connectivity issues.Ability to analyze data, identify issues, and propose practical solutions.Communication Skills :
Good verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with team members and end users.Ability to explain complex wireless issues to non-technical users.Certifications (Preferred, but not required) :
Wireless networking certifications (e.g., CWNA - Certified Wireless Network Administrator, CompTIA Network ) are a plus.Familiarity with basic networking certifications (e.g., Cisco Certified Network Associate [CCNA]) is beneficial.Education and Experience :
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field is preferred.Some experience in IT, networking, or wireless technology is a plus, but not required.Working Conditions :
The role may require occasional on-site work to install or troubleshoot wireless equipment.Some travel may be necessary for site surveys, installations, or support tasks.Occasional after-hours work may be required for network maintenance or troubleshooting.
