Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties has a full-time opportunity for a MA Primary Care Float Trainer in Anaheim, CA. To travel as assigned to the various health centers throughout Orange and San Bernardino Counties providing Medical Assistant coverage and training support.  Model non-judgmental, empathetic care for patients and enhance the organization’s ability to provide high-quality health services.

Works closely in collaboration with the Training Team to create and maintain effective learning solutions designed to improve individual and organizational performance and quality standards and incorporate interactive materials for a variety of delivery systems.

The MA Primary Care Float Trainer will facilitate in-person and online training programs, including new hire and need-specific trainings.   • Adhere to agency’s policies, procedures and protocols.

This may include successfully completing agency, regional, and / or state certification requirements.

  • Adhere to affiliate goals and policies on professionalism, wait time in-clinic and on the system for addressing client complaints.
  • Participate in health center efforts to achieve established goals for productivity.
  • Participate in health center / affiliate efforts to achieve established revenue cycle goals.   Back-office functions :
  • Ability to triage patients and obtain medical history and vital signs (blood pressure, height, weight, etc.).
  • Prepare and stock exam rooms and clean and sterilize equipment.
  • Perform basic lab work, testing and screening (Hgb, pregnancy tests, urine dipsticks), package specimens for outside lab tests, record lab results, and triage abnormal results.
  • Perform injections and blood draws following the California code of regulations.
  • Effectively communicates with the Licensed Provider any and all information regarding patient disclosure of violence, abuse, or unsafe living situations during patient interactions.
  • Works to enhance clinicians’ ability to provide high-quality, efficient delivery of care.
  • Assist and support Providers as needed.
  • Must provide excellent customer service in a non-judgmental and empathetic manner.
  • Schedules appointments and refers patients for follow-up medical services, including abortion services.
  • Comply with infection control, safety, and emergency guidelines.   Assist and support the clinical staff in the :
  • The provision of contraceptives,
  • The provision of abortion services.
  • The provision of primary care services
  • Work to ensure client satisfaction by establishing rapport with clients, while remaining cognizant of, and responsive to, the need for medical and educational care delivered in a professional, expedient manner.
  • Capacity to relate to diverse communities and display a warm, caring attitude.
  • Document clearly and accurately within the patient’s medical records.
  • Prepare center for opening and secure for closing, as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Health Center Management   Training Functions : Administrative Duties :
  • Prepares agenda for training sessions
  • Designs and develops training materials using various learning theories that include facilitator and participant guides, tutorials, demonstration models, study and reference materials, job aids, and on-the-job training systems.
  • Updates existing training guides and presentations to ensure instructional integrity of all training materials.
  • Works closely with all teams to ensure new updates and changes are communicated & implemented in a timely and effective manner.
  • Communicates with Training Management as needed to maximize efficiencies and resolve issues.   Instruction :
  • Delivers training for Medical Assistants (MA) for Family Planning, Primary Care, and Specialty & Surgical Services.
  • Delivers new hire orientation for onboarding of health center staff, including Medical Assistants, as needed.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in the design and maintenance of training courses and materials in coordination with the Training Team.
  • Evaluate and document learner performance and comprehension of course materials.
  • Identifies learning obstacles and works with Health Center Management to develop an action plan for resolution.

  • Conducts shadowing and evaluation for new and existing Medical Assistants with a focus on Primary Care and Family Planning at all 9 Health Centers.
  • Maintains learners’ training records.
  • Provide on-site support, including training for pilots and roll-out of new or revised processes.
  • Provide feedback to management, staff, and the Patient Services department on health center observations and on-site training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Training department management.   Non-Essential Functions :
  • Maintains knowledge of relevant anatomy and physiology, methods of contraception, STIs, pregnancy, adoption, early prenatal care, education techniques, community resources, agency protocols, referral procedures, primary care procedures within practice scope, and all Planned Parenthood programs.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the manager.
  • These may include occasionally needed specialized services such as services for developmentally disabled clients and specialized patient education programs.

  • Medical Assistant Certificate from an accredited school required.
  • Must possess any applicable certifications (CMA, venipuncture, etc.) required. Minimum Education :
  • High school diploma or GED required. Minimum Work Experience :
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in clinical setting preferred.
  • A minimum of 6 months experience at a Planned Parenthood affiliate or 1-year similar experience in a clinical setting required.
  • Health care services, managed / primary health care and / or abortion services experience desirable. Language Requirements / Preference : Bilingual skills (reading, writing, and speaking) in Spanish are preferred.  If required, candidate will be tested for proficiency prior to job offer.   • This position requires travel to other sites and locations; if using a personal vehicle to meet this requirement, a valid CA driver’s license and current auto insurance in compliance with the minimum requirements of CA vehicle code are required.
