Job Description:
AMA is currently accepting applications for an experienced engineer to act as Chief Engineer for an Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) program. The qualified candidate will have experience in assembly, integration, and test (AI&T), space operations, Technology Readiness Level (TRL) maturation, work on first-of-a-kind systems, and advanced space vehicle technologies. The position will be on-site in Albuquerque (relocation available). The Chief Engineer will support research, engineering, and technical management for developing space technology concepts. The work ranges from small cubesat-sized payloads to large complex spacecraft.
Job Duties:
- Serve as the Technical Authority owning the technical success of the program and establishing a technical vision for the team.
- Lead cradle-to-grave engineering support of novel space technologies.
- This includes design, AI&T, launch and early orbit, space operations, data acquisition, post-experiment analysis, technical report and end-of-life decommissioning.
- Support anomaly resolutions during flight operations.
- Review and approve technology advancement criteria.
- Work on multiple flight projects concurrently, appropriately delegating and balancing the workload.
- Support the Program Manager in the planning of tasks, maintaining a schedule, and staying on budget.
- Ensure an adequate risk management board is established and participate in risk review boards.
- Oversee application of best practices for quality control during prototyping and AI&T.
- Provide leadership and mentorship for other engineers.
- Coordinate work with permanent team members as well as subject matter experts.
Requirements:
- Completion of a Master’s degree in engineering or a related science field.
- Experience with systems engineering or multidisciplinary engineering work on complex space systems.
- Experience with spacecraft design, assembly, integration, and test.
- Experience in developing and/or executing technology maturation plans.
- Technical writing and presentation experience with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a diverse team.
- Top Secret Security Clearance.
- 15 years minimum working in the aerospace field.
- 5 years minimum working in a leadership position.
Desired Qualifications:
- Not all desired qualifications are necessary or expected from applicants.
- Tasks will be assigned based on applicant’s interest, niche skills, and strengths.
- The ideal candidate would have completed a PhD in Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with spacecraft operations and anomaly resolution.
- Experience with spacecraft end-of-life and decommissioning.
- Work on first-of-a-kind systems.
- Experience working with Air Force or Space Force.
- 20 years in the aerospace industry.
- 10 years working in a leadership position.
