Job Description:

AMA is currently accepting applications for an experienced Lead Flight/Ground Software engineer for an Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) program. The qualified candidate will lead team(s) of software engineers and technicians in support of space flight and high-altitude balloon technology demonstrations and experiments. They will support research, engineering, and technical management decision-making for software in Mission/System Development, Prototyping/AI&T, and Flight Operations. The work ranges from small cube sat-sized payloads to large complex spacecraft. The position will be on-site in Albuquerque, NM (relocation available).

Job Duties:

  • Support the research, evaluation, planning, design, development, testing, and integration of spacecraft subsystems, products, and projects.
  • Lead team(s) of software engineers and technicians in support of space flight and high-altitude balloon technology demonstrations and experiments.
  • Mentor junior team members on software development and systems engineering.
  • Apply systems engineering best practices to software development.
  • Develop space and ground system software in a fast-paced agile environment, including learning the existing code base, troubleshooting and addressing bugs, and optimizing system performance.
  • Provide expertise on quality assurance and software development best practices.
  • Support system modeling/analysis and experiment data acquisition software development.
  • Provide regular updates, reporting, and presentations to stakeholders.
  • Communicate highly technical problems and solutions to personal ranging from junior engineers to program leaders.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10 years systems engineering experience related to space and/or ground systems.
  • Experience working with DoD systems engineering best practices.
  • Active Top-Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • Bachelor’s degree in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM), Information Technology, or computer science from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Located or ability to relocate to vicinity of Albuquerque, NM-work to be performed on Kirtland AFB (no remote option available).

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM), Information Technology, computer science or similar from a regionally accredited institution
  • Professional software certifications or similar, as well as demonstrated interest in continued education.
  • Experience working with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) practices for software development.

Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident due to clearance requirements.

This is a contingent role, based on being awarded work.
