What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wind Tunnel Support - Digital Twin Control System Development Intern (Summer 2025) position at Analytical Mechanics Associates, Inc.?
Job Description:
Position Summary:
Digital twin capability development for wind tunnel controls and training environment.
Description:
Analytical Mechanics Associates (AMA) is seeking an intern to support lead a project, with facility engineering oversite, to build and integrate a pseudo-physical environment of a simulated high-speed wind tunnel facility interfacing with a digital twin of facility controls. This digital twin control system will serve as a surrogate for operational training and troubleshooting of the programmable logic controller (PLC) interface. It will also provide the opportunity to evaluate changes to the facility controls without the need to energize the various electrical, fluid, and pressure systems; thus, providing a safe approach for assessing and validating the programming logic.
This assignment is scheduled to start on June 2, 2025 and last for 10 weeks for a total of 400 labor hours.
The digital twin is a hybrid between ideal, logic-based behavior and model simulation of the physical environment, capturing accurate fluid flow fields, pressure drops and flow rates. MATLAB Simscape has been identified as a capable modeling environment, and the Simscape Fluids package will serve as a key component.
Requirements:
Relevant engineering or mathematics background in PLC development at the junior or senior level. (Graduate students are also eligible to apply).
Authorization to work in the United States
Familiarity with the following software will facilitate software development:
MATLAB
Simulink
Simscape
Simscape Fluids
Allen Bradley programmable logic controllers
ControlLogix Simulation Interface
U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residence Required
