Job Purpose:
Creates programs and performs a variety of machine operations utilizing numerical control machining centers to cut, shape, or form metal work pieces to specifications using Blueprint reading, shop math, precision instrument reading.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A wide variety of product knowledge and experience is needed for this position including the following skills and abilities: read and understand detailed work orders and specifications, identification of all parts, understanding of geometry and the inventory process.
· Perform daily machine startup and shutdown procedures on CNC machine.
· Performs a variety of inspection and gauging operations to ensure maintenance of quality standards and specifications.
· Measures work piece for conformance to specifications and notifies VSL of discrepancies.
· Ensures machine cleanliness and performs routine preventive maintenance.
· Buffing and assembly operations required.
· Create and perform edits to programming as needed. (Required)
· Setup machine and coordinate with material handler, all subcomponents are staged prior to starting next order, in an effort to reduce downtime between jobs.
· Change cutting tools and adjust feeds and speeds per job requirements.
· Monitor tooling wear and perform tool changes.
· Meet production goals with regards to cycle time, quantity and quality.
· Record production output and machine issues.
· Basic construction framing knowledge is helpful
Occasionally or as Needed
- Ability to work overtime as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Value Stream Leader.
- Step into any job within the department to ensure work is completed in a timely manner.

Education/Experience:
Must be at least 18 years old with high school degree or GED. Degree preferred but not required. Requires industrial machine training with (1) one year of general work experience preferred but not required.

- Must have mathematical skills with the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
- Must be able to read and interpret spec. drawings.
- Must be able to read a tapeline. Ability to understand concepts such as fractions, percentages and ratios.
- Must have ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

- Frequent walking, standing, reaching, lifting up to 50 lbs. (heavier lifting is assisted by over-head hoist system), bending, pushing/pulling, cervical and torso twisting, handling/grasping.

Relationship and Roles:
This position will report directly to Value Stream Leader. ·
This position will instruct, direct and other forms of heavy interaction with all team members within the department.
Work Environment/Safety:
Steel Toe Boots are required in this position.
Climate controlled environment. Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Overall, no Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required, however, on some instances, this job may require the wearing of a variety of PPE that will be provided to the team member. If PPE is necessary, the team member will be mandated to wear it.
