About the Team
Under the supervision and mentorship of a designated Lead Peer Support Administrator, Peer Support Professional Apprentices work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing supportive recovery-focused services to increase wellness, opportunity of independence, and satisfaction of receipt at the Alaska Behavioral Health (AKBH) Peer Lounge. All services provided at AKBH are in accordance with creating a warm and safe space to build recovery in alignment with interactions and communications consistent with the organization’s mission, goals, and chosen values.
What You’ll Do
- Engage potential and ongoing clients who enter the center and support them in accessing resources and services that support them in meeting their basic needs.
- Provides intervention support to clients presenting with problems by resolving and stabilizing situations in partnership with clinical team members. Facilitate the development of recovery skills among assigned consumers as a member of the treatment team.
- Develops therapeutic relationships with ongoing clients to provide an environment where clients can make appropriate changes and be successful in the environment of their choosing.
- Participates in the discharge planning in conjunction with the treatment team to enhance client's ability to retain treatment changes, use community social supports, treatment professionals, and / or continue to work on therapeutic change.
- Provide necessary client information to other agencies or health care providers, (psychiatrist, mental health professionals or agencies, schools, courts, hospitals, etc.) to coordinate services to identified clients.
- Serve as a mentor / role model demonstrating recovery, effective coping skills, and self-help strategies.
- Provides peer groups in alignment Peer Lounge program.
- Be part of a fast-paced, highly structured, collaborative, and multidisciplinary team that share roles and responsibility for clients as needed to provide ongoing support.
