What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavior Strategist position at Anchorage School District?
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of two years of experience working with students experiencing developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, mental health issues, and/or intensive behavioral needs.
- Board certification as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) within three months of hire. Ten days may be added to the contract, if necessary, to obtain initial training prior to the start of the first school year in this position.
- Must successfully complete Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training within 30 days of hire.
- Must obtain and maintain current CPR/first aid certification.
- Must possess a current Alaska driver’s license.
- A bachelor’s degree in special education or a related field such as psychology.
- Minimum of three years successful school-based experience.
- Evidence of:
- Exceptional communication skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Experience with conflict resolution skills
- Understanding function of behavior and principles of behavior
Demonstration of:- Creating graphs from data collected
- Instructing and modeling a training plan based on Behavioral Skills Training (BST)
- Works under the direction of district board certified behavior analyst(s).
- Collaborates with school teams to implement behavior supports.
- Provides on-site instruction, modeling, and coaching to school teams working with students who require additional intensive behavioral supports.
- Models the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for students in collaboration with the teacher, paraprofessional, school psychologist, and behavior analyst.
- Supports the implementation of evidence-based behavioral programs.
- Develops procedural integrity checklists (i.e., BIP implementation checklists).
- Collects data for Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs).
- Collects data on student progress of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Collects data on staff implementation of BIPs.
- Follows training plan developed by the behavior analyst.

Job Summary
The Behavior Strategist assists in the implementation of behavioral interventions and programs for Anchorage School District students of all ages and grades who require intensive behavior support. This position reports to and is evaluated by the director of Intensive Behavior Supports. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).

The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.
