Summary/Objective
The CNC Lathe Operator Trainee produces machined parts by learning the processes and procedures for set-up and operation of CNC Lathe machines. Learning machine operation, blueprint reading, measuring tools and how to maintain accuracy and tolerances. Learn to update travelers, routings and routine machine maintenance.
Essential Functions
A Trainee will learn and master the following Functions:
Identify the correct material types and sizes for the job.
Reading blueprints and identifying part dimensions and specifications.
The process of inputting control instructions into machine control units to start operation.
Calculations for machine speed and feed ratios, and the size and position of cuts.
The concept of zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
What three-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers are and how they are used.
Develop an understanding of drilling, grooving, and cutting, turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations.
First article inspection and why.
Regularly measure and perform inspection on parts. Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
Check to ensure that workpieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation.
Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems.
How to use and properly store precision measuring equipment.
Properly rinse parts.
Properly handle parts.
Properly label and handle non-conforming product.
Communicate with appropriate persons immediately upon discovery of potential problems and work to solve problems promptly and logically. This includes proper use of the chain of command.
Confer with Lead or programmers to resolve machine malfunctions and production errors, and to obtain approval to continue production.
Keep work area clean.
Monitor machine for proper operation and maintain proper oil and coolant levels.
At end of shift clean area and perform scheduled daily machine maintenance including dumping waste oil, metal chip bins and bar ends.
Maintain accurate end of shift counts of material and parts.
Complete the necessary job tracking paperwork.
Pass along vital information between the outgoing and incoming operators.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Educations and Experience
High school diploma, GED and/or Technical School Graduate with concentration in CNC operations or industry recognized certification.
Successful completion of entry level introductory period required.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
