Job Summary
- The Lead Pharmacy Technician, under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist and according to the standard procedures, state, and federal law - monitors and prioritizes pharmacy technician workflow, maintains appropriate inventory levels, mixes IV additive solutions as required using aseptic technique, types labels, prepares and files charge slips, and performs other related duties.
Essential Functions
- Monitors and prioritizes pharmacy technician workflow
- Procures pharmaceutical and related supplies per contractual terms
- Maintains appropriate pharmacy inventory levels
- Provides department orientation and training to pharmacy technicians
- Assists Pharmacist to prepare and dispense medication
- Mixes pharmaceutical preparations, fills bottles with prescribed tablets and capsules, and prepares labels for bottles
- Fills orders with correct medications. Prepares unit of use dosage when possible
- Processes records of medication and equipment dispensed to patient, computes charges, and enters data in computer
- Generates required reports (e.g., pick list, IV production reports)
- Performs backup procedures correctly
- Recycles product as appropriate. Changes preparation and expiration date on recycled products
- Prioritizes work (e.g., stats made first)
- Delivers IVS to proper locations
- Restocks shelves and rotates stock.
- Properly disposes of non-recyclable solutions
- Maintains refrigerator temperature and other quality assurance logs
- Receives and stores incoming supplies
- Counts stock and enters data in computer to maintain inventory records
- Returns medications to stock and rotates stock
- Sterile and non-sterile compounding using aseptic technique according to 797 and 795 guidelines
- Collaborates with Pharmacy Manager/Market Director of Pharmacy to ensure departmental needs are met and departmental goals are achieved

- Must have good and regular attendance
- Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications
Education
- High School diploma or equivalent
Licenses/Certification
- Licensure as required by the state
Experience
- Minimum two years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital pharmacy setting. Basic understanding of the role of and use of a computer in the processing of prescription orders with minimum word processing skills
- Proven leadership experience with maintaining positive relationships with coworkers and customers
