Job Purpose:
To manage and execute complex tax preparation and review tasks, ensuring accurate and timely completion of individual and business tax returns. This role involves direct client communication, advocacy on behalf of clients with tax authorities, and mentoring junior staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Tax Preparation and Review:
- Communicate with clients to gather tax organizers and any missing information needed to complete tax preparation.
- Assist clients in cleaning up bookkeeping records to complete business tax returns.
- Prepare individual income tax returns (1040) and business income tax returns (1120, 1120S, 1065, 1041).
- Review individual and business income tax returns to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Client Communication:
- Communicate with clients across the country via telephone regarding tax matters.
- Act as an advocate on behalf of clients when communicating with the IRS and other tax authorities.
- Team Support:
- Mentor and support junior staff, enhancing their performance and development.
- Lead team projects and foster a collaborative environment.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for improving tax preparation and review processes.
- Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Administrative Tasks:
- Ensure all client documentation is accurately recorded and maintained.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by Company management to support the overall objectives of the organization.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Minimum 3 years of experience preparing taxes at a CPA firm.
- Minimum 3 years of experience preparing individual (1040) federal and state tax returns.
- Minimum 3 years of experience preparing business (1120, 1120S, 1065, 1041) tax returns.
- Must be able to effectively organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong Excel skills including pivot tables.
- Experience with tax preparation software including Forms 1120, 1065, 1120S, and 1040.
- Experience with CCH Axcess or CCH ProSystem fx is a plus.
- Must be willing to work extra hours as needed to meet tax deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- EA or CPA preferred; must be willing to work towards obtaining EA or CPA status.
- Additional certifications or coursework related to advanced tax strategies or financial management.
