TITLE : Principal (Elementary)
LOCATION : Nevitt Forest Elementary School
STATUS / FLSA : Full-time / Exempt
PAY SCHEDULE / GROUP : Administrative Building Level
DIRECT REPORTS : All staff assigned to the school
SUPERVISOR : Superintendent
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : 240 Days. Salary determined by schedule set by the Board.
EVALUATION : Performance evaluated by the Superintendent.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this classification is to manage the school environment through leadership, supervision, and administration to promote the maximum educational development of students. Responsible for planning and implementing instructional programs and support services, establishing goals and objectives to promote improvement in achievement, effective instruction, attendance, accreditaton, discipline and community support, overseeing school climate and safety, and coordinating overall activities on the campus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1) Provide leadership in determining the needs of students, teachers, and personnel to ensure an optimal learning environment for all students.
2) Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel, recommend faculty and staff assignments, and implement staff development for building-level personnel.
3) Work with teachers on curriculum issues, and analyze data to highlight strengths and weaknesses of the instructional program.
4) Develop public relations to increase community understanding and support of educational programs, work with parents to facilitate a positive school environment, and with teachers and parents on the discipline and academic success of the student.
5) Implement Board Polices, instructional practices and administrative rules to maintain state and federal guidelines of accreditation.
6) Supervise students before and after scheduled school hours, and supervise the transportation of students to various offsite facilities during the school day.
7) Prepare and administer the school budget. Manage the school's finances so that all policies and procedures are followed.
8) Create and maintain a safety plan that addresses all types of emergencies.
9) Coordinate and maintain timely and accurate records and reports.
10) Based on a needs assessment or data analysis, provide professional development in areas where need is present or a pre-determined focus area.
11) Assign members to Induction Teams, participate in and monitor the progress of evaulation teams.
12) Supervise certified and non-certifed employees assigned to the school site.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Interview and recommend teachers for hire.
- Address personnel issues; create correspondences and emails to staff.
- Ensure that all laws, policies, and procedures, including those found in the District Board of Trustee Policies, are followed.
- Ensure the school is provided with appropriate programs that suit the needs of students and staff.
- Advocate for public education.
- Plan and implement professional development for certified staff.
- Confer with students with behavioral difficulties; confer with parents of students with behavioral or academic difficulties.
- Participate in professional development programs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Skills in public speaking; Demonstrated academic leadership; Ability to operate basic office equipment, computers and software applications; Ability to multi-task effectively; Knowledge of accounting principles, finances, and budget management; Knowledge of curriculum, standards, and assessment; Knowledge of best practices regarding instruction and curriculum; Ability to manage, lead, and guide others; Knowledge of local, state, and federal policies, procedures, and guidelines regarding education.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USAGE
Use computers for data entry; or use hand-held power equipment or light machinery; Use computers for word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations or custom applications or operate; Supervise the activities of those operating or repairing complex machinery or technology systems; Establish long-range plans and programs for capital improvements, major construction projects, or new technology systems.
EDUCATION : Completion of Master's degree in Eduational Leadership or equivalent with state certification
EXPERIENCE : 3 years admininstrative experience
REQUIRED : SC teacher and administrative cerfication
PREFERRED : Training in the current teacher evaluation system; knowledge of Title One Program
