Job Summary: Provides patient care to obstetrical, gynecological, and neonatal patients under the guidance and direction of the registered nurse. Performs various light housekeeping duties.

Job Responsibilities:
- Supports Patient Bill of Rights by respecting cultural, religious and ethical diversity.
- Responds appropriately to infant security, hospital code and patient alarms, including required documentation.
- Uses effective communication skills with patients, staff, other departments, physicians, families and visitors.
- Provides age and population specific patient care in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner to newborn, adolescent and adult populations.
- Completes documentation accurately and in a timely manner, according to hospital policy and procedures.
- Maintains the patients environment to include appropriate equipment and supplies at all times.
- Obtains and documents accurate blood glucose, vital signs, I & O, and weights, and reports abnormal findings to the nurse in a timely manner.
- Performs or assists with patients hygiene, food, and fluid needs.
- Assists patients to obtain optimal mobility in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Provides care to newborns receiving phototherapy
- Maintains a clean unit and completes the unit cleaning checklists.
- Assists in infant discharge process which includes: car seat fitting, transponder removal and foot prints.
- Performs advanced nursing skills to include insertion and removal of Foley catheters and neonatal heel stick for glucose screening.
Education Requirements and Other Requirements:
Education Level: Current enrollment in an accredited School of Nursing
Certification/Licensure: BLS required.
Experience Requirements: Must have successfully completed two (2) semesters of clinical rotations.
Working Conditions:
Exposure Category I: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes of them, are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
