Job Summary: Works with the perioperative team, under the supervision of the nursing staff, in providing safe and effective care to the surgical patient during the perioperative period. Will be responsible for the inventory management of the operating rooms and supply carts in the surgery department.

Job Responsibilities:
- Supports patient’s rights and responsibilities, including respect of cultural, ethical and religious diversity.
- Provides age-appropriate and population specific patient care in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner to all populations.

- Maintains current knowledge and practice of hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

- Performs all duties associated with the general housekeeping day shift responsibilities according to policy and procedure.
- Efficiently and effectively follows procedure for cleaning operating rooms and environmental cleaning along with following procedure for operating room turnover.
- Appropriately cleans and maintains a neat environment in the semi-restricted and unrestricted areas of the surgical services department.
- Performs other departmental maintenance procedures appropriately and efficiently to include daily, weekly and monthly tasks.
- Appropriately handles and disposes of sharps and red bag waste.
- Handles and transports surgical specimens according to policy and procedure
- Assists with patient positioning according to policy and procedure.
- Follows principles of surgical aseptic technique.
- Appropriately sets up O.R. with equipment and supplies for surgical procedures, obtains additional supplies/equipment for the surgical team, and returns equipment and supplies to the appropriate places.
- Follows policy and procedures for cleaning, disinfection and sterilization of instruments.
- Assists anesthesia in pre-op, cleaning and preparation of anesthesia machines and stocking of room inventory.
- Identifies daily supply need and ongoing par level adjustment in operating rooms and supply carts.
- Maintains a working knowledge of the Materials Management, OR module, Meditech and hospital computer system.
- Works independently, uses judgment and discretion during day-to-day activities.
- Responds to overhead pages in a timely manner either by telephone or in person.
- Effectively communicates with OR Team, other PCTs and Board Runner if going on breaks, lunch, or leaving the department for any reason.
- Performs additional duties necessary for surgical services department according to OR room assignments for each day.
Qualifications
Education Requirements and Other Requirements:
Education Level: High school diploma or equivalent. Certification/Licensure: CPR Certification.
Experience Requirements: Preferred experience in providing or assisting in patient care and knowledge of medical terminology. Basic knowledge of computers, aseptic technique, and materials management techniques.
Working Conditions: Exposure Category I: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes of them, are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
