Job Summary:
Provides respiratory care services: safe, skillful, accurate and in an efficient manner, age-appropriate and population specific to patients of all ages under the direction of a physician, guided by department guidelines, policies, procedures and protocols.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Assessment/Reassessment/Evaluation
Is knowledgeable and skilled in clinical assessment of the respiratory system.
Is knowledgeable regarding pulmonary health and respiratory pathophysiology.
Is knowledgeable of Respiratory Care Department guidelines, policies, protocols, care plans.
2. Implementation
Is knowledgeable and skilled in the assessment and care of respiratory patient.
Provides to age-appropriate and population specific patients care in a safe, skillful, accurate and
efficient manner to neonates-Class I and emergency care, acute and emergency care for pediatric
patients, adolescents, and adults; critical care for adolescent and adult patients; adult
rehabilitation, and respiratory diagnostic services.
3. Discharge Planning
Is knowledgeable in the application of respiratory care beyond the acute care setting and skilled
to identify and communicate perceived ongoing need for respiratory care.
Is involved in the interdisciplinary activities of discharge planning as related to respiratory care.
Is involved, as required, to assist in the testing, arrangements and coordination of respiratory
care.
4. Patient/Family Education
Is resource person with knowledge and familiar with health education resources to provide
information about respiratory health and to instruct patient/family in application of respiratory
therapy equipment and skills.
5. Documentation and Communication
Is thorough, accurate, timely in completion of respiratory care documentation.
Is thorough, accurate, timely in communication to hand-off of patient care information, and other
information that impacts the operation of the department and interactions between departments.
Demonstrates working computer skills and is able to navigate the Meditech system.
Demonstrates effective communication skills.
6. Blood Gas Lab and Respiratory Care Diagnostics
Is knowledgeable and proficient in performance of patient diagnostic testing and monitoring.
Is a participant in the blood gas lab process in accordance with College of American Pathologists
Laboratory Standards.
Qualifications
Education Requirements and Other Requirements:
Education Level: Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program
Certification/Licensure:
Current credentials with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC):
Certification required, Registry preferred
Current State of Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner License required
Adult/Pediatric CPR certification required (Available upon employment)
Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification required (Available upon employment)
ACLS/PALS certification preferred.
Experience Requirements: Minimum of one to two years clinical experience as a student therapist.
Working Conditions: Exposure Category I--Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues:
All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin
contact with blood, body fluids or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes of theme are Category tasks.
Use of appropriate protective measures should be required for every employee who engages in Category I tasks.
Salary : $27 - $41
