What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wildlife Care Technician (Seasonal) position at Anderson Humane?
Anderson Humane is a progressive, limited-admission humane society with an annual intake of approximately 4,000 companion animals. Our wildlife rehabilitation program cares for over 3,000 injured and orphaned native Illinois animals each year with a survival rate of over 70%. We are a fast-paced organization dedicated to the animals in our care and the people we impact; and we work hard to create a positive work environment.
Our Wildlife Care Technicians are a big factor in the success of our wildlife program each year. We emphasize the importance of exercising humane and confident handling of a wide variety of wildlife species at all times. Our team of Wildlife Rehabilitators needs Wildlife Care Techs to help with the daily husbandry of our injured and orphaned wildlife patients; completing daily hand feedings of orphaned animals while directing interns and volunteers at our Elburn location. Compensation is $15.00 per hour; Wildlife Care Techs are hired for Anderson Humane’s busy season (April through October) and work four consecutive days a week including one weekend day.
What you’ll be doing
· Supervising and assisting Wildlife volunteers and interns with animal husbandry tasks, like
o preparing meals
o ensuring all animals’ immediate needs are met, and enrichment is provided
o routinely cleaning animal areas; including laundry and dishes
· Assisting Wildlife staff manage cases of severe illness and trauma; such as fluid therapy, wound care, and administering injections and medications.
· Handling wildlife animals with a high level of caution and compassion while being attentive to their needs and well-being.
· Engaging in positive and constructive conversations with the public on proper care of wildlife animals.
What to expect
· Willingness and ability to work with animals of all temperaments and species.
· Exposure to high noise levels; potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, animal bites, and scratches.
· Staying active: walking, standing up to 10 hours a day; and lifting up to 50 pounds (with assistance).
· The need for safety awareness due to animal exposure.

Ideal candidates have
· Previous experience caring for, and handling wildlife animals is preferred.
· A sense of confidence and ease handling wildlife animals of all species and ages.
· Their own transportation, valid driver’s license, and insurable driving record.
· The desire and ability to work with the public; a passion for animal welfare, and Anderson Humane’s mission.
· Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills; Spanish fluency is a big plus!
· Effective time management skills; can multi-task and redirect efforts with minimal supervision when priorities change.
· Initiative, and excel at working independently and as a valued member of a team.
