Job Summary
The payroll accountant will be responsible for full-service payroll processing for 30 clients, tailored to the individual needs of each client. This job duty will ensure payrolls are processed on time, accurately, and in accordance with our firm policies; including compliance with federal and state legislation and regulations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Implements, maintains and reviews payroll processing and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
· Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates for 30 live payroll clients, with additional “after the fact” client processing cycles on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis.
· Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
· Prepare payroll tax returns (941, 940, W-2s, etc.) using electronic software, and verify that tax forms agree to payroll documents.
· Complete various work papers to provide reconciliation and tie out of tax forms.
· Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
· Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
· Provide superior customer service to our clients, including timely response and resolutions to requests.
· Ensure client’s accounting software and work papers are properly reconciled, updated, and stored in the electronic virtual file cabinet
· Calculate and enter all working time into the electronic billing system for all client activities.
· Performs other professional duties as requested or assigned.
· Adhere to strict confidentiality of all client documents and information.
· Review and maintain clients’ financial records and employee documentation.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll tax law.
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Proficient verbal and written communications skills (to communicate with clients, staff, and supervisors).
· Computer proficiency – especially MS Office Products (Excel) and the internet.
· Proficiency with payroll and bookkeeping software, especially Accounting CS and QuickBooks.
· Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion within parameters of given instructions, prescribed routines, and accepted standard practices.
