POSITION OVERVIEW                   

 

TITLE: Equipment Operator
STATUS/FLSA:   Full-time /  Non-Exempt
PAY SCHEDULE/GROUP:     /
DIRECT REPORTS: Full-time: ( x ); Part-time (  )
SUPERVISOR: Grounds Facilities Supervisor, Campus Enhancement Services
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 240.  Salary determined by schedule set by the Board.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this classification is to maintain and tend to the landscape of all District properties to provide a safe and pleasant atmosphere for students, teachers, staff, and visitors. Responsible for cutting grass, spraying pesticides, pruning shrubbery, cutting boards, repairing fences, constructing sidewalks, and moving and maintaining equipment and vehicles.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1) Work on District properties with the safety of students, staff, and grounds personnel as the priority.

2) Landscape and maintain grounds on all District properties, including but not limited to cutting grass, planting, pruning and trimming of shrubbery and trees, fertilizing, and spreading mulch.

3) Use weed control and pesticides with attention given to safety of employees and students.

4) Properly mark athletic fields prior to games.  Support and assist athletic events as needed.

5) Maintain proper function of irrigation systems.

6) Perform repairs to fences, parking and driveway surfaces and playgrounds.

7) Move or transport equipment and furnishings throughout the District as needed.

8) Manage and complete work orders.

9) Maintain and repair grounds equipment and vehicles as needed.

10) Assist other equipment operators and grounds personnel as needed.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Essential Job Duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all inclusive. There will be other duties as assigned.

-Maintain accountability of tools and equipment.

-Remain available for emergency or unplanned events that may transpire during the course of a school year.

-Participate in staff development programs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of athletic field landscape and set-up needs, includes field maintenance, preparation and accurate measurement skills; Knowledge of  landscaping and lawn and shrubbery maintenance procedures and techniques; Knowledge in fertilizing, weed control and extermination; Knowledge of lawn maintenance equipment and upkeep, Knowledge of District policies and procedures; Ability to communicate and relate effectively to others orally and in writing; Good interpersonal skills;  Basic ability to follow work orders and work with minimum supervision.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USAGE 
             

Use email and work order management Use or repair light and heavy machinery; Use or repair mowers, tractors, weed eaters, power tools and equipment, and other landscaping equipment.

EDUCATION:   Completion of high school/GED.

EXPERIENCE: Experience may be substituted for education. Experience with landscaping, athletic turf maintenance, and grounds preferred.

LICENSES:  REQUIRED: Valid Driver’s license.

CERTIFICATIONS: PREFERRED:  Herbicide/Pesticide Certification. Landscaping certifications.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

ACTIVITIES: Standing 1/3 to 2/3 of the time; Walking 1/3 to 2/3 of the time; Sitting 1/3 to 2/3 of the time; Gripping or feeling with hands over 2/3 of the time; Reaching with hands and arms over 2/3 of the time; Climbing or balancing under 1/3 of the time; Stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling under 1/3 of the time; Talking or hearing under 1/3 of the time; Tasting or smelling none of the time.  


LIFTING: Up to 10lbs 1/3 to 2/3 of the time; Up to 25lbs 1/3 to 2/3 of the time; Up to 50lbs under 1/3 of the time; Up to 100lbs under 1/3 of the time; More than 100lbs none of the time.    


VISION REQUIREMENTS

Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down or to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point).

Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).

Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more).

Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).


WORKING CONDITIONS AND HAZARDS

Indoor Environment, Outdoor Environment, Noise, Extreme temperatures; Vibration; Moisture and/or humidity; Dust; Fumes; Gases; Electrical hazards; Mechanical hazards; Chemical hazards.
