Andrews Osborne Academy (AOA) is an independent day and boarding school located in Willoughby, Ohio, dedicated to educating and nurturing students from Pre-K - 12th and Post Graduate. Position Summary
The Director of Development at Andrews Osborne Academy will report to the Head of School, working collaboratively with a dedicated team to advance and support the Academy's mission, values, and goals. This role is responsible for spearheading annual giving, alumni programs, parent engagement, and events, while also contributing as a key member of the Leadership team. The Director of Development will lead and work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications, Director of Admissions, and other key positions to identify new strategies for enhancing engagement, annual giving, and program direction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate closely with the Head of School to strategically plan, design, and implement the Academy's advancement priorities.
  • Develop strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and prospects.
  • Provide oversight to ensure the Academy meets or surpasses Annual Fund goals.
  • Provide updates and reports to the Head of School and Board of Directors.
  • Work in tandem with members of the Advancement team to expand community relations and establish stronger connections with alumni, parents of alumni, and friends.
  • Establish specific goals for annual giving, alumni, and parent programs, ensuring effective planning and execution in collaboration with the Directors of each program.
  • Oversee the planning and executing of donor events, and attend other community events as needed.
  • Support the AOA Parents Association and coordinate campaign leadership volunteer activities.
  • Foster a positive and supportive office culture, providing mentorship and guidance to a seasoned, professional staff.
  • Collaborate on initiatives and decisions related to overall program direction, strategies, and fundraising goals.
  • Develop a system of metrics and strategies for measuring progress toward team and individual goals and evaluating overall performance.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of Andrews Osborne Academy, including its mission, history, vision, educational program, community, funding priorities, and strategic initiatives, to effectively articulate a compelling case for support to all constituents.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in the development or related field.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Strong management experience with the ability to work closely with staff to achieve individual and department goals.
  • Extensive background in Annual Giving, including leadership programs and constituent relations programs.
  • Experience overseeing constituent programming designed to support the comprehensive needs of a broad constituency.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, cultivate, and close gifts from Annual Fund and major gift prospects.
  • Proficiency in using databases like Raiser's Edge and collaboration tools like Google Drive.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.
  • An appreciation for Pre-K - 12th and Post Grad education, especially in a coed, international educational setting.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The role involves frequent walking, standing, sitting, talking, and hearing. Occasional bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, and lifting objects weighing up to 25 pounds may be required. Most of the work is office-based, with long periods of sitting and standing.
