Andrew S. McCreath and Son, Inc. is a third-party inspection, sampling and laboratory service company based in the US.
McCreath has a long history in the New Orleans area and is known for accuracy, integrity and quality service. The New Orleans location is our largest field office and is fully equipped to service our customers’ needs on the Mississippi River and beyond to Texas, Arkansas and Alabama.
Our staff is experienced in working with the barge lines and various stevedoring groups. The main services provided by this location are:
· Barge Surveys
· Sampling
· Screen Test
· Inspection
· Attendance of vessel discharge / loading
About the role:
The Inspector/Sampler is crucial to the success of the company. They must be able to follow work instructions to ensure consistent quality and safety standards are achieved. Once trained, they must be able to work independently to take samples for laboratory analysis or particle size testing for our clients. They will also be able to help our clients troubleshoot problems that may occur during the transportation or storage of raw materials that are destined for their customers. This position requires you to work at heights, over and near water, and to access barges, ships and other vessels. You will report to the Manager or his designee.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Inspection and sampling of raw materials
Surveying of barges
Verification of truck scale weights
On site determination of particle size
Warehouse inventories
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintaining equipment for sample preparation
Maintaining equipment for surveys
Keeping records for the jobs
Keeping records of hours worked
Safe operation of company vehicles
Key Competencies:
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to work independently
Computer/mobile device skills
Mechanical aptitude
Well organized
Good math skills
Read and write the English language
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift 75 lbs. or more
Must be able to climb ladders and work at height
Must be able to work outdoors
Must be able to work over/near water
Additional Requirements:
Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
TWIC card or the ability to obtain one
Drug Free
Candidates must be 18 years or older
Travel, on-call and occasional holiday work are required
