What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Andrews & Cole, LLC?
Andrews & Cole is currently partnering with a commercial real estate company in the South Bay that is looking for a full-time Assistant Controller to add to the team. The role will be hybrid, 4 days onsite and 1 day remote, and will report to the CFO.
SUMMARY:
As the Assistant Controller, you will play a crucial role. You will manage and perform financial and administrative duties to ensure effective, efficient, and accurate financial reporting. As a successful accounting and finance leader, you will demonstrate a professional and uncompromising desire to deliver an exceptional customer experience to our internal and external customers (team members, 3rd party owners, investors, partners, and lenders). Your main mission is to be a trusted partner.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the CFO in managing the day-to-day accounting matters, coordinating the month-end closing process, and ensuring the timely delivery of accurate financial reporting.
- Maintain accounting department priorities and strategic initiatives.
- Coach and train a team of accountants to improve efficiency and maintain accuracy.
- Ensure accurate reporting of revenue, expense, and balance sheet according to GAAP and IFRS standards.
- Identify areas of opportunity for creating efficiency and implement changes to improve the timing of the monthly close.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process to include the review of account reconciliations and analysis.
- Prepare and/or review property, investment, and corporate-level financial statements, including variance explanations.
- Prepare monthly supporting schedules for the financial statements, including investment rollforwards, bank, and other reconciliations.
- Review and approve corporate accounting functions, including fund allocation and fees.
- Monitor operating cash flows and cash balances.
- Coordinate with the operations team on CAM preparation and review process timely annual reconciliations and billbacks.
- Prepare and analyze the monthly and quarterly investor reports, including analysis and narratives.
- Assist with recurring projects, such as quarterly reporting, budgets, internal/external audits, investor and lender Q&A, etc.
- Support internal and external departments with timely financial information, addressing inquiries and providing necessary support as needed (investors, owners, lenders, etc.).
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting.
- Assist in the annual audit.
- Perform other duties, responsibilities, and activities as needed.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA desirable.
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, with a focus on commercial real estate.
- Advanced Excel experience.
- Managerial experience.
- Advanced understanding of US GAAP.
- Proficiency with MRI preferred.
