Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in Culinary Arts designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree from accredited university; culinary graduate preferred
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge and skills in CA programs
Knowledge and appropriate use of large commercial kitchen equipment
Knowledge of cost control procedures
Knowledge of industry related software
Ability to align Culinary Arts curriculum and instruction to industry certification exams
Ability to market CA program to students, staff, parents and business community
Ability to plan banquet menus, prepare and provide catering for campus, district and community events
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
With Associate or Bachelor’s degree: Three (3) years within the last 8 years of wage-earning experience in an appropriate occupation
No degree: Five (5) years within the last 8 years of wage-earning experience in an appropriate occupation
Four (4) years industry related professional food service experience preferred
Teaching experience, student teaching, or approved internship
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program, reflect accommodations for learning style differences, and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Present content according to the guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Collaborate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives and methods according to district requirements.
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Administer safety exams prior to allowing students to work with equipment/resources in the commercial kitchen.
- Facilitate planning and implementation of banquet and catering events through culinary curriculum.
- Collaborate with local public and private culinary institutes of higher education.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
- Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).

Mental Demands/Physical Demands:
Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions and deadlines; frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Occasional: Lifting and carrying 10-25 pounds frequently, 25-40 pounds occasionally, more than 45 pounds infrequently with assistance; Pushing/pulling 10-35 pounds sporadically; May be required under specific circumstances to provide physical restraint of students in danger of causing harm to themselves or others
Environmental Factors:
Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, house. Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.)
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the principal in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy. Evaluation will be completed in accordance with regulations and procedures of the Texas Teacher Appraisal System.
Salary : $54,086
