POSITION SUMMARY:
Manage the Health, Safety, and Environmental program at the Chesterton location and provide routine EHS support to South Holland, Novi, and Livonia locations to advance EHS programs and to maintain regulatory compliance. Under the direction of EHS Manager – AMUSA, ensure that Andritz Metals USA Inc policies, procedures and programs are implemented at each facility, as well as maintaining ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Responsible for monitoring the safety and environmental program and providing the necessary information and assistance to supervisory personnel for the execution of their safety and environmental responsibilities.
2. Coordinate the hazardous waste program, ensure employees are trained, monitor the waste on site, arrange for timely removal of waste and report to the regulatory bodies as required by law.
3. The EHS coordinator manages the EHS program in the following ways:
- Performs daily activities focused on employee safety, health, and environmental protection.
- Maintain a safety committee comprised of supervisory and hourly personnel and schedules monthly meetings to discuss company safety problems and safety goals.
- Maintains all EHS documentation including written programs, SDS’s, audits, training, incidents, and many others.
- Assist in the development of safety orientation and training materials for new or reassigned employees. Such materials may include Job Hazard Analyses, safety rules, and safety meetings. Perform new employee orientation and safety training.
- Provide monthly safety training as planned, support weekly toolbox talk presentations, and maintain all safety training records associated with these activities.
- Maintain a Contractor Safety Program and perform both safety and process related training to Contractors performing work for this facility.
- Maintains chrome plating environmental and safety program in conjunction with hazardous waste program requirements.
- Manages Business Continuity Plan and other emergencies.
- Perform monthly safety inspections.
- Maintain supply of first aid supplies and stocks all first aid cabinets.
- Participate in the corporate monthly safety meetings.
- Evaluate PPE for each process and ensure training is performed for its proper use including respirator fit testing.
- Oversees hazardous waste removal and handling procedures.
- Monitor and maintain environmental activities and programs to ensure regulatory permit requirements are met.
- Perform required reporting to all environmental regulatory bodies including IDEM, IOSHA, EPA and DOT.
- Manages the FMCSA and fleet DOT program, including driver record management.
4. Conduct audits and inspections as needed in South Holland, Novi, and Livonia. Collaborate with site to implement corrective actions.
5. Conduct and or facilitate monthly safety training at South Holland.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health and Safety (Or related field)
- 2 plus years’ experience
- Familiarity with ISO 45001and ISO 14001
- Experience with SAP is a plus.
