Job Overview
The Engagement Specialist, working under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Article 31 Operations, is responsible for all aspects of the pre-screening and intake process of clinics under the Mental Health Division. This includes centralized scheduling intake appointments, completing initial phone screening to determine appropriateness for assessment, completing data collection form and ensure verification and authorization of insurance / financial payment for services. The Engagement Specialist will be required to support open / same day access to services and schools’ referrals for services.
In addition, the Engagement Specialist will also be responsible for providing oral and written status reports to the management team, building, and maintaining referral network of community-based organizations. This includes helping clients and referral sources to access outpatient services and providing relevant information regarding other services.
Essential Duties
Key duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Understanding and supporting the agency’s mission & treatment philosophy :
- Treats all clients, families, and co-workers with respect & courtesy.
- Demonstrates & models’ sensitivity to cultural background of children, families, and co-workers.
- Conducts phone screenings, to assess appropriateness for mental health services.
- Routes crisis calls (callers who may be in distress) to appropriate referral source and / or provides preliminary crisis evaluation involving designated staff (Supervisor, Clinic Manager, or designated administrator) for appropriate follow up / assessment.
- Gathers all necessary demographic, insurance information and schedules initial appointment.
- Works directly with Clinic staff and front desk to manage Open / Same-day access to services and school referrals.
- Distributes intake information to appropriate screeners and front desk immediately after scheduled appointment.
- EMR functions :
- Entering all demographic information
- Opening client chart and entering necessary information for screening
- Verifies and enters insurance information and initial authorizations.
- Schedules open access screening appointment
- Monitor compliance with appointments and reschedules as needed.
- Reporting functions :
- Reports on all incoming calls / referrals and their disposition
- Responsible for providing oral and written status reports to management team on weekly, monthly basis.
- Attends and participates in supervision and staff meetings.
- Maintains knowledge of OMH regulations as well as agency policy and procedures and developments as they relate to administrative practice.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Essential Qualifications

High School Diploma
3. Skills, Knowledge, Abilities :
Physical / Travel Requirements
The employee in this role must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, climb stairs and carry up to 30lbs.
The employee must be able to meet these requirements with or without reasonable accommodation.
Employees must have a valid driver’s license to travel between both (2) clinics.
