Led by two brothers born into fine chocolate, we offer a collection of modern and classic bonbons which combine the time-honored processes of our European past with the inspiration and creativity of our Los Angeles roots. In addition to our handcrafted chocolates, we operate a vibrant, busy café serving expertly crafted drinks using Counter Culture coffee ensuring a high-quality and dynamic experience for both our team and customers.

About the Role As a Cafe Associate and Barista at andSons Cafe, you’ll have the opportunity to work in a vibrant and welcoming environment, crafting high-quality coffee beverages and providing exceptional customer service. We partner with an equally passionate coffee company, Counter Culture, who provide us with our coffee beans and extensive training program. This position starts at $18/hour plus tips.

A typical day at the café might start with working through the opening checklist, setting up the outdoor seating and making sure all supplies are stocked for the day. When the line is down the block, your focus turns to ensuring each person receives a thoughtful, high-quality experience. During quieter moments, you might restock shelves, clean the outdoor tables, or adjust the espresso machine to ensure that shots are pouring consistently.

About You Our ideal candidate is a emotionally mature, team-oriented, and outgoing person who is excited to learn and share their coffee knowledge. You develop authentic rapport with guests, can work independently as necessary, and have the confidence to navigate unexpected situations with ease. You love going above and beyond for a guest to ensure their visit is memorable—whether it’s a regular asking for you to hand-deliver their cappuccino to their car so they don’t wake their sleeping baby or a camera crew showing up to film in the café, you maintain your composure and jump in to help as needed. You aren’t intimidated by a long line of excited people and you thrive on making spaces more efficient during downtime so that you’re ready for the next rush. Ideally, this isn’t your first time working in guest service, and you have the bandwidth and scheduling flexibility to learn and grow in this role.

Responsibilities

• Guest Service: Regardless of the day of the week or the crowds, customers can depend on you for amazing hospitality. Be timely, dress professionally, and develop long-standing relationships so that visitors look forward to your thoughtful attention and friendliness.
• Coffee Excellence: Prepare espresso drinks using our manual machine, drip coffee maker and cold brew batching with a consistent level of excellence. Know allergen information and be able to answer questions about our coffee products with ease. Make thoughtful recommendations based on customer preferences and experiences.
• Systems & Processes: Identify ways to improve operating procedures, checklists, and documentation so that your individual observations benefit the entire team and lead to all-around cafe improvements.
• Team Player: Be a positive, team-oriented player who brings the team up even when the line is down the block. Your coworkers want to work with you again (and again and again).
• Other tasks as necessary.

Requirements

• Great Interpersonal Skills: You should be able to develop a quick rapport with customers by sharing insights about our menu and inspiring guests to learn more about our offerings. Proven ability to work well within a team environment. Excited to connect with people.
• Previous Experience: Minimum of 2 years of barista experience in a fast-paced environment.
• Weekend & Weekday Availability: Our cafe hours are Mon-Fri 7-5, Saturday 9-4 and Sunday 9-2. We can offer anywhere from 24-40 hours per week.
