What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional position at Angel Guardian Inc?
Direct Support Professionals provide habilitative services designed to assist individuals in gaining independence and exercising personal choice necessary to reside successfully in a community setting. DSPs provide support for participants with disabilities through training and proximity supervision. DSPs communicate observations and needs to the Program Manager related to participant needs and goals. DSPs should avoid situations in which their personal interests’ conflict or might conflict with their job functions and should immediately disclose the possibility of a conflict of interest to their supervisor. Job Duties (not limited to):
- Support the Individual Service Plan (ISP) by providing input and information
- Tracks progress towards goals and objectives in ISP
- Facilitates opportunities for people supported to gain independence through planned activities
- Fades support as dictated by progress of the ISP goals and objectives
- Complete written documentation daily
- Maintain accurate records on support services provided
- Document and recommend actions to increase independence of people supported
- Maintain all applicable certifications including First Aid and CPR
- Responds to crisis in accordance with policy and training.
- Transport clients when necessary using Angel Guardians, Inc. Vehicles
- Makes decisions based on Agency Training and Mission.
- Other Duties as assigned
Skills and/or Qualifications (not limited to):
- The successful candidate is reliable, energetic, professional, flexible, and capable of meeting job duties as listed
- Is a positive role model for people supported
- Able to communicate effectively
- Valid driver's license, and good driving record
- Clearance of all applicable background checks.
- Ability to read and interpret documents, to write specific reports and correspondence, to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations, to solve complex problems, and to interpret written and verbal instructions is required.
Physical Requirements:
- Personal Assistance: Ability to assist individual in activities of daily living as well as related job tasks.
- Lifting / Physical Demands: Able to lift 50 or more pounds frequently
- Challenging Behaviors: Ability/ willingness to support individuals with challenging behavior.
- Ability to move throughout the facility and community
- Communicate with persons supported, staff and community
Education and/or Experience:
- A high school diploma or its equivalent.
- The ability to maintain First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience with adults who have developmental disabilities, (or similar experience is strongly preferred).
