Position Overview:
The Driver will provide safe and reliable transportation for individuals with disabilities to and from agency programs and community activities. This position is vital in ensuring timely transportation while promoting the safety and dignity of the individuals served.
Key Responsibilities:
Safely operate agency vehicles, including vans and accessible vehicles, to transport clients between homes, programs, and community activities.
Assist clients entering and exiting the vehicle, ensure proper use of seat belts and safety restraints, and secure mobility devices (wheelchairs, walkers, etc.).
Maintain a positive and respectful attitude toward clients, demonstrating patience and understanding of their unique needs.
Follow established transportation routes and schedules, ensuring timely pickup and drop-off of individuals.
Communicate any changes in schedule, delays, or transportation issues with the Program Director and other relevant staff.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, checking for maintenance issues and ensuring its cleanliness and safety.
Maintain accurate documentation of mileage, fuel usage, client attendance, and any incidents during transport.
Assist in maintaining and organizing client transportation records in compliance with agency and regulatory requirements.
Attend required training sessions, including safety protocols, first aid, and disability awareness.
Adhere to all state and federal transportation laws and agency policies and procedures regarding the safety and well-being of individuals with disabilities.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid Nebraska driver's license with a clean driving record.
First Aid / CPR, MANDT Certification. The agency will provide if not held.
Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a human services setting is preferred.
Ability to lift and secure mobility devices such as wheelchairs.
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
Ability to follow directions and respond calmly in emergency or stressful situations.
Working Conditions:
Requires driving in varying weather conditions.
Must be able to assist individuals with physical disabilities, which may involve lifting, bending, and securing equipment.
Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required based on client needs.
