POSITION: Lead Summer Camp Counselor (May-August) – Part-Time – Lufkin
EMPLOYMENT DATE: Until Filled
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Experience:
o Working with children in an educational setting;
o Classroom management in an educational setting;
o Curriculum development and evaluation of educational programs.
- Certification or Licensure: Take 8-hour CPR course on a Saturday prior to the start of summer camps or present proof of current CPR certification.
· Training or Technical Skills:
o Take the online Sexual Harassment Course prior to the start of summer camps;
o Complete Camp Counselor training prior to the start of summer camps
Preferred:
· Experience instructing students and managing their behavior.
· Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and/or some college hours in Child Development or Education.
· Valid Texas Teaching Certificate.
· Current CPR certification.
· Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

· Work as assigned between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, during the months May through August.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The position will report to the Manager of Continuing Education for job responsibilities and other College related activities as outlined in the Policies and Procedures Manual. Essential duties include but are not limited to the following:
· Foster an environment that is student-focused and committed to excellence.
· Foster an engaging, supportive, and challenging learning environment in classrooms, laboratories, shops, and co-curricular programs.
· Maintain appropriate order and control of instructional settings to ensure a productive and engaging learning environment.
· Maintain accurate attendance records of students enrolled in the assigned course.
· Provide oversight to part-time camp counselors and campers as assigned.
· Manage instruction of campers.
· Work with other camp counselors to assist in instructing summer camps.
· Escort campers between camps and early drop-off, lunch, and late pick-up locations.
· Check in and greet students and parents in the morning, and check out and greet students and parents in the afternoons.
· Work camp hours as assigned by the office of the Chair of Continuing Education, not exceeding 19.5 hours per week.
· Attend a pre-camp orientation meeting in May.
CONTRACT & SALARY:
$17.00 per hour. Proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States must be verified for the successful candidate.
