Position Summary: The Civil Deputy Clerk is within the Office of the District Clerk. This position provides support to the general public, attorneys, District Courts, County Court’s at Law, CPS and Attorney General offices. The Civil Deputy Clerk’s primary duties are to process and maintain the filing of permanent records for family law cases in the county courts at law and civil, tax, personal injury and foreclosure cases within the District Courts. Number of Persons Supervised: None
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Assists the general public, attorneys and law enforcement personnel as needed
- Performs general clerical duties such as answering the telephone, data entry, scanning documents, copying, filing and retrieving E-File documents
- Responds to inquires both in person, email and over the telephone in a courteous and professional manner
- Accepts payments and issues receipts for filing fees, fines and court costs.
- Performs daily reconciliation of receipts and cash drawer.
- Review and processes all E-Filings and Odyssey queues.
- Issues all citations, writs and other documents as needed. Prepare civil appeals
- Processes transfers of cases to different jurisdictions
- Performs data entry into State Disbursement Unit (SDU) child support
- Processes orders and documents from the 159th and 217th District Courts, CPS, AG and County Court at Law No 1 and No 2.
- Receives payments and schedules for court ordered parenting classes
- Process public requests for copies and information
- Reports to work on time as scheduled
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Performs any other duties as assigned or required within the scope of the office
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to operate standard office equipment such as computers, calculators, copiers, scanners and telephone
- Ability to work efficiently with Windows, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- Ability to learn, interpret and apply county ordinances and resolutions
- Ability to maintain confidentiality

Work Environment:
- Work will be performed indoors
- Low level noise from office equipment, air and heating, and some music on occasions
- Physical Requirements:
- Requires ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Requires ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Requires ability to see, speak and hear to interact with co-workers and the general public
- Requires sufficient manual dexterity to operate computers and office equipment
- May be required to stoop, bend, reach, stretch, twist and climb step ladder and staircase to archival case records as needed.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- One (1) year clerical/office experience
- Must meet eligibility requirements
