What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Keeper position at Animal Ark Wildlife Sanctuary?
Duties and Responsibilities (in addition to daily Animal Care)
- All aspects of animal husbandry including but not limited to cleaning, feeding, giving medication, enrichment, and training.
- Maintain daily records on animal husbandry, training, and enrichment.
- Transport animals to and from the vet clinic when needed.
- Lead educational programs and tours.
- Identify and report maintenance issues.
- Ability to complete basic repairs.
- Adhere to animal standard operating procedures (SOP’s) including safety regulations.
- Complete regular animal diet preparation
- Participate in customer service and register shifts in our Visitor Center.
- Participate in committees, such as administrative tasks, volunteering organization, or events planning
- Follow the established chain of command for leadership and proper communication.
- Commit to developing professional skills by setting goals and seeking feedback.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be a minimum of 18 years old
- Have a bachelor’s degree or higher or have two years of paid animal experience
- A valid driver’s license
- Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include weekends and holidays
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Team oriented with the ability to work independently
- Have good time management skills
- Be self-motivated
- Be able to handle stressful situations in a calm, professional manner
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, push, pull 50 pounds
- Capable of working in all weather conditions
