General Summary of a Pet Care Technician

The pet care technician will be responsible to always provide compassionate and attentive care of the animals, maintain a clean healthy environment for the animals and the public, and assist with other duties as needed. Assisting the general manager or pet care supervisors with additional tasks as needed.

Primary Duties

• Available to work assigned days – Monday thru Sunday between the hours of 7am and 8 pm, including holidays, weekends and busy times.
• Available to work occasional overtime.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Self-motivated, independent worker.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Good decision and problem-solving skills.
• Good organization and planning skills.
• Demonstrated flexibility and proven coping skills.
• Feeding & Care of boarded guests and help in the Daycare.
• Ability to withstand prolonged exposure to dog and cat hair and allergens.
• Sweeping/Mopping floors and other janitorial duties of entire kennel.
• Cleaning kennels soiled with feces, urine or vomit. (Top, bottom, sides and door)
• Cleaning kennel gutters and alleyways.
• Doing laundry & dishes. (Wash, sterilize and distribute throughout kennel)
• Ability to withstand prolonged exposure to water and soaps.
• Taking out the trash, cleaning bathroom, yard work (including raking leaves and shoveling snow) and checking equipment and supplies.
• Assisting the groomer with restraining pets when needed and helping our clients with their pets, etc.
• Lifting to 50 pounds without assistance.
• Able to walk, exercise and bathe guests in our care. (Kennel baths and Bath/Brushes)
• Use proper dog handling techniques including use of kennel leads to transfer guests and handle aggressive quests. (Using a slip lead on all guests)
• Administration of Oral & Topical medications as indicated by owners or veterinarian.
• Able to learn about the different diets & medications being given.
• Trimming nails.
• Able to be standing during entire work shift.
• Always present oneself in a professional manner at all times. (Uniform shirts provided)
• Enough computer knowledge to use reservation system to check guests in and out of boarding, daycare and grooming along with cross selling services.
• Answer phones and handle currency transactions.
• Patrol kennel grounds daily, picking up trash and stool material.
• Preparing our guests to come into the kennel, groomer and daycare in a safe manner.
• Getting guests ready for checkout when leaving. (Gathering items, Food and Misc. things)
• Must be able to frequently walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, life, reach, and handle heavy equipment.
• Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Other duties assigned by management.
• Ability to communicate in English.
• Communicate in a timely manner with Management, Groomer and Kennel Attendants: The need to reorder supplies needed for the job.
• Guests that are: Not eating.
• Vomiting.
• Having Diarrhea.
• Not having bowel movements.
• Passing abnormal urine.
• Injured or showing abnormal behavior.
• Showing any aggressive actions that have not been previously noted on the kennel report cards.

Minimum Experience and Skills Required

• Good oral communication skills
• Previous work experience demonstrating dependability
• Animal care (personal or job related)
• Self-motivated, independent worker
• Proven ability to follow instructions and learn new things
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Demonstrated flexibility and proven coping skills
• Able to provide own transportation
