Veterinary Assistant - Full and Part Time NO WEEKENDS
*Monday through Friday, No late nights, or weekends*
Animal Dental Clinic in Vienna, VA is one of the oldest animal dentistry and oral surgery specialty clinics in the world. We have a Board-Certified Veterinary Dentist™, Dr. Barron Hall, surrounded by a small team of dedicated staff. We are looking to add to this team to enable us to help more animals per day.
Animal Dental Clinic is looking to add two Animal Assistants to our team. This position has their hands in all aspects of the business. Tasks may include, but aren't limited to, check-in, blood draws, animal restraint during IVC and TPR, anesthesia monitoring, surgery assisting, and check-out. We are looking for people that can help us make each pet’s mouth healthier and pain-free. These positions fall under the practice manager and doctor but work as an equal with all members of staff.
Candidates should be hard-working, reliable and love animals. They should be team players but take ownership and pride in the job they have done. Having the ability to anticipate the needs of the doctor can go a long way.
Responsibilities
Provide compassionate, humane care to the animals both pre- and post-op
Restrain animals of various sizes and temperaments
Surgery: surgical prep, doctor assistance, sterilize and maintenance of all surgical instruments and/or equipment and surgical room
Anesthesia: monitoring, patient recovery, and equipment maintenance
Collect blood samples as necessary (jugular, cephalic and saphenous veins) as well as run appropriate in-house lab tests (knowledge of IDEXX lab equipment helpful)
Various housekeeping duties (clean exam rooms and cages, laundry, etc.)
Requirements
Able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted and to stand or kneel for periods of time
Be ready to work each day on-time and to the best of your abilities
Possess excellent skills in written/verbal communication in English, and record keeping. Neat handwriting is a must.
Have a positive and compassionate attitude
Be honest and reliable
Willingness to learn
Takes initiative and be able to anticipate the needs of the doctor
The ideal candidate will be an energetic individual with one to three years of veterinary experience. Experience in small animal anesthesia is a plus.
Compensation package is commensurate with experience and skill level ($15– $25/hour). Part time hours can vary based on availability and need but be consistent. Full time hours would be consistent with limited variation. Looking to fill hours of 0700 - 1800 Monday through Friday. Full time hours may be (4) 10 hour shifts or (5) 8 hour shifts.
