At Animal Emergency & Specialty Center (AESC) of Chattanooga, we are dedicated to providing top-notch, compassionate care to critically ill or injured pets. As the 24-hour partner to neighborhood veterinarians, we specialize in managing complex medical conditions and performing advanced diagnostics, evaluations, and treatments that go beyond the scope of most veterinary practices. We are currently seeking a skilled ICU Veterinary Technician to join our dynamic team and provide critical care in our state-of-the-art facility.
As an ICU Veterinary Technician, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This is a high-impact, rewarding role where your expertise in advanced clinical skills will be essential to providing the best care possible. You will work closely with specialty veterinarians and a multidisciplinary team to monitor and treat patients suffering from life-threatening conditions.
This is a full-time, overnight position, working from Friday – Sunday, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM. We will consider more for someone with relevant work experience in ER medicine and those who are Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVT) in the state of TN.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Exemplary Patient Care: Administer medications, monitor patient progress, and provide ongoing treatments to ICU patients.
- Collaborate with the Specialty Team: Maintain open lines of communication with specialty departments (such as surgery and cardiology) to keep all team members informed about patient status.
- Monitor Critical Patients: Assess patient condition regularly, documenting changes in behavior, vital signs, and overall status.
- Diagnostic Testing & Sample Collection: Run necessary diagnostic tests such as chemistries, CBCs, urinalysis, and fecal floats; collect and handle samples (venipuncture, cystocentesis, etc.).
- Medication Administration: Administer medications via IV, IM, and SQ routes as prescribed.
- Critical Care Support: Uphold hospital standards in critical care practices, including providing support in anesthesia, phlebotomy, and other advanced techniques.
- Patient Record Keeping: Keep detailed records of patient care, treatments, and progress in a timely manner.
- Additional Tasks: Assist with cleaning, stocking, and maintaining the ICU environment to ensure the space is well-prepared for patient care.
Here is What You Will Bring to the Position:
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in a veterinary hospital, with advanced clinical skills in areas such as phlebotomy, anesthesia monitoring, and critical care. Experience in a specialty or emergency practice is highly desirable.
- Critical Thinking & Attention to Detail: The ability to think critically and remain calm under pressure is essential in an ICU setting. A keen eye for detail is crucial for ensuring patients receive optimal care.
