Position Summary:  


Animal Friends is seeking a Clinic and Community Services Veterinarian to join our compassionate and dedicated team. We are hiring for full-time, part-time, and per diem positions to help fulfill our mission of improving the welfare of animals and providing exceptional veterinary care.


The veterinarian will play a key role in ensuring the success of our affordable clinic services while upholding the Pennsylvania Veterinary Practice Act. Responsibilities include performing soft-tissue surgeries, COHATs, and high-quality/high-volume (HQHV) spay/neuter surgeries, as well as administering vaccinations and providing both general wellness and sick services at the Animal Wellness Center at Animal Friends.


This position requires a big-picture perspective on animal welfare and the ability to handle emotional situations with professionalism and poise. Candidates should possess flexibility, high energy, strong problem-solving skills, and a compassionate, solution-oriented mindset. As a representative of Animal Friends, the veterinarian is expected to embody and promote our mission, vision, values, and culture in every aspect of their work.


Veterinarians licensed to practice in Pennsylvania with strong communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to high-quality animal care and community engagement are encouraged to apply. (Please note that some requirements may not apply to part-time and per diem candidates.)


Full-time veterinarians are eligible for PTO, paid holidays, a continuing education allowance, medical, dental, and vision benefits, and will work a four-day week. Part-time veterinarians are eligible for PTO and a continuing education allowance.


Essential Functions: 


· Examine, diagnose, and provided treatment plans for canine and feline patients. 

· Perform surgical procedures including, but not limited to, ovariohysterectomy (including pediatric), orchiectomy/castration (including pediatric), mass removals, hernia repairs, gastropexies, COHATs, entropion repair, amputations, enucleations, cystotomies, etc.  

· Perform humane euthanasia services. 

· Participates in community vaccine clinics and pet safety net community events. 

· Participate in receiving and presenting training and continuing education for the organization. 

· Consults with other veterinary professionals as needed. 

· Provides guidance to staff for situations that require immediate problem-solving. 

· As a strong public face of Animal Friends, sets the tone for our clients’ experiences  

· It is essential that the incumbent be a people-person with an outgoing, positive personality with a compassionate spirit who is interested in serving both people and animals. 

· Must possess excellent organizational skills, with an eye for detail, computer database knowledge and comfort working in a fast-paced team environment. 

· The candidate must support the Animal Friends’ mission, vision, values, and culture while enhancing and promoting the programs and services of the organization. 

· Engages in networking with other animal welfare agencies, government officials, community and corporate leaders to further the work of the organization.  Participates in community outreach programs as required. 

· Leverage volunteer talent by engaging their assistance within the department, thereby helping us to further our mission and vision and to achieve the organization’s expectation of 100% integration of volunteers into our programs 

· Must be able to follow verbal and/or written direction and respond positively to direction and supervision. 

· Must be comfortable working with and around particularly dogs and cats (including ferals) of all sizes, breeds, temperaments, age, and background. 

· Must be able to work organizational special events as required. 

· Must have a sincere interest in the work, program, vision, mission, values, and culture of Animal Friends, Inc. 

· Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

 

Qualifications: 


· Doctoral degree in veterinary medicine (DVM or VMD) and current Pennsylvania license required. 

· A strong background in clinical skills with a high level of professionalism and the willingness to treat both medically and/or surgically minor illness/disease and minor wounds.  Excellent surgical skills required. 

· A minimum of three to five years prior work experience as a veterinarian preferred.

· Specialized Knowledge – Proficient knowledge of veterinary medicine specifically that of companion animals (dogs and cats) and veterinary terminology.  

· Customer/Client Focus – Ability to work with people of various backgrounds including those from underserved communities, armed services veterans, and unhoused persons. Ability to work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment with a commitment to developing long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and community.

· Time Management – Efficient in movement, thought, and time management. Ability to set the pace for the day.  

· Surgical Capacity – Ability to perform or the willingness to acquire the skills to perform at least 30-35 spay/neuter surgeries per HQHVSN clinic.
