Job Summary
The Pet Support Programs Liaison helps sustain multiple animal welfare programs that provide surrender prevention, intervention, and comprehensive assistance to pet owners. This role includes direct support of the following programs:
- Safety Net - Our intake intervention program helps pets at risk of surrender due to medical, behavioral, or other issues through the provision of financial and material assistance.
- Peaceful Paws - Our humane euthanasia and cremation program provides total cost coverage for those saying goodbye to their pets.
- Pitstop4Pets - Our temporary boarding program assists with up to 90 days of boarding for the pets of those fleeing domestic violence, experiencing housing insecurity, being hospitalized, or going into treatment.
- Paws on the Ground- Our street outreach program provides support to under resourced or unhoused individuals with pets.
This position provides broad administrative support for the organization's operations. The Liaison acts as a point of contact for clients, offering resources, scheduling appointments, and assisting with handling inquiries to ensure pet owners receive the necessary support to retain and care for their pets.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
Program Support: Safety Net, Peaceful Paws, and PitStop4Pets
- Assist with fielding calls from the public during operational hours, assisting clients with coordination of necessary care for their pets.
- Work with the Pet Support Programs Manager to make certain that requests for assistance fit within each program's parameters.
- Help to establish and maintain relationships with veterinary and behavior partners.
- Aid in maintaining client records, tracking program invoices, and ensuring prompt payment to partners.
Client and Community Support
- Assist with answering client inquiries via phone and email as scheduled, providing compassionate, trauma-informed assistance and resolving client requests.
- Schedule appointments with program partners and coordinate with internal departments to improve client experiences.
- Understand and utilize community resources to assist clients effectively.
- Assist with community pet health fairs and other outreach events as needed.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate data records for all programs, consistently analyzing processes to ensure efficient and effective operations.
- Support the Outreach department with the New Mexico Humane Conference and other events.
- Conduct administrative duties such as data entry, filing, typing, copying, and scanning.

Job Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, education, or a directly related field, or significant related experience in project coordination and/or community outreach.
- 1 year of related work experience providing customer service and administrative support.
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is highly desirable.
Skills and Abilities
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills tailored to diverse audiences.
- Experience with event planning and project management.
- Ability to think critically and assist pet owners in non-emergency and emergency situations while maintaining confidentiality in accordance with company policy and all applicable federal, state and local laws.
- Must be able to manage the emotional aspect of end-of-life services and humane euthanasia.
- Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and various online software tools.
Work Environment and Schedule
- Full-time, exempt position requiring some weekend and evening hours.
- Work is performed in an office and animal shelter environment.
- Occasional lifting of objects up to 50 lbs.
- Contact with the public, partner agencies, donors, staff, and volunteers is frequent.
