This position will help to advance the mission and programs of the Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) by overseeing facilities, equipment, contractors, and staff dedicated to supporting shelter operations through maintenance and infrastructure management at all ARL sites

- Provide leadership and strategic direction for the comprehensive maintenance and repair operations of shelter infrastructure, vehicles, and equipment.
- Lead the maintenance and repair of shelter buildings, vehicles, and equipment.
- Direct the operation and utilization of specialized equipment, including skid steers, tractors, ARL vehicles, and grounds care machinery, ensuring optimal efficiency and effectiveness.
- Exercise oversight in the management of work order requests, orchestrating timely resolutions to enhance operational efficiency.
- Develop and implement proactive maintenance programs, aligning with the organization’s goals and longevity of shelter assets.
- Exercise purposeful management in systematically collecting and maintaining accurate records for equipment, supporting informed decision-making and resource optimization.
- Providing oversight and support of the crematory.
- Exercise strategic management in overseeing contracts for repairs, improvement projects, preventative maintenance, and equipment/vehicle repairs, aligning initiatives with organizational goals.
- Collaborate with various departments and supervisors to uphold building conditions, ensuring a conducive environment for all facets of operations.
- Lead the maintenance of grounds, exercise areas, sidewalks, and walking areas and steps.
- Cultivate positive relations through professional, courteous, and educational interactions while actively promoting our mission, services, programs, and events.

- High School Diploma or GED, required.
- 5 years of work-related experience, required.
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Must be able to function in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
- Must possess excellent customer service, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills and be able to resolve conflict effectively.
- Ability to performance basic mathematical skills.
- Demonstrated experience in preventative and predictive maintenance practices.
- Experience in construction and operating construction equipment.
- Understanding and experience in workplace safety and conducting risk analysis related to grounds and facilities.
- Knowledge of and experience with electrical safety protocols.
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
- Ability to work outdoors in high heat or cold environment on occasion.
- Work may expose employee to odors, diseases of animals that are possibly contagious, bites, scratches, animal waste, and moderate noise level.
- Must be able to stand and sit for long periods of time.
- May be exposed to disinfectant solutions and smells due to cleaning.
