Animal Samaritans, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit animal welfare organization committed to improving the lives of animals and people is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join our growing organization in the beautiful Coachella Valley (Palm Springs area). Animal Samaritans’ operates two full-service veterinary clinics and a no-kill Animal Shelter. In addition, we offer a Humane Education Program, Animal Recuse Program, Animal Companion Therapy programs, and financial aids programs for low-income pet owners.
The Animal Samaritans’ Accounting Manager should be familiar with generally accepted accounting principles. She/He will lead all day-to-day Accounting and Finance operations, which includes hands-on functional responsibility and oversight of: Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, GL postings and Cash Flow operations The Accounting Manager will ensure that the organization maintains financial systems and procedures in place to support effective business and program implementations. The Accounting Manager works closely with department heads and their staff members regarding Finance and Accounting procedures, and how the Finance function can support business operations.
Specific Responsibilities
Accounting & Internal Controls:
- Coordinate accurate posting of revenues and expenses from all business endeavors.
- Safeguard assets and assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions.
- Reconcile monthly bank statements.
- Prepare and review daily journal entries for accounts receivable and accounts payable.
- Manages and maintains all accounting records.
- Manage and maintain all bank entries, funds transfers and payments.
- Set-up, monitor, and review all staff credit cards and expense reporting.
- Oversee and review check payment, ACH, and automatic bill pay.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts.
- Cash flow analysis – daily, weekly and monthly.
- Ensure financial and accounting procedures and protocols are maintained.
Financial Reporting:
- Develop and update a variety of weekly and monthly financial and accounting reports provided to CEO and Finance Committee.
- Provide monthly departmental reports to department heads and CEO.
- Lead support role for all audits.
- Maintain all government reporting in financial areas.
- Leads organizational efforts to identify and analyze expense and revenue trends.
Payroll/Benefits Reporting:
- Review and oversight of bi-monthly payroll. Serve as back-up for payroll.
- Financial Analysis of benefit programs as well as benefits reporting for government agencies.
- Knowledge of reporting requirements for payroll and benefits
Staff Meetings:
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings.

Qualifications/Skills/Gifts:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related discipline is preferred. A combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
- 3 - 5 years of accounting experience. Non-profit accounting highly desirable.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong general information systems
- MS Office Suite
- QuickBooks Knowledge a must
- Excellent collaboration and people skills a must
- Knowledge of ImproMed Veterinary Practice Software or other medical based practice software desirable
