Position Summary
Assist in the development of the Animal Welfare Department's (AWD) Foster/Community Engagement Program; coordinate the operational activities of critical community assisted programs and services; expand community support and attend community events to solicit support for volunteer programs; develop and maintain the support of the community including provisions for excellent customer services and development of a strong foster and volunteer base; coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies and the general public.
This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in business or animal science; and
Five (5) years of experience in community outreach, volunteer coordination or coordinating animal services; and
To include (1) year of lead or supervisory experience.
Animal Shelter experience preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
Preferred Knowledge
- Principles and practices of public relations and event coordination
- Operations, services and activities of an Animal Shelter
- Animal handling and behavior identification
- Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers
- Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations

- Assist in the development of the Animal Welfare Department's (AWD) Community Engagement Program
- Coordinate the operational activities for community assisted programs
- Coordinate multiple task simultaneously and adhere to timelines
- Participate in expanding community support for volunteer and foster programs and attend community events to solicit support
- Seek support of the community including provisions for excellent customer services and development of a strong volunteer base
- Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public
- Interpret and explain City policies and procedures
- Respond to sensitive community and organizational issues, concerns and needs
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing data base systems and spreadsheet applications
- Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including a variety of City and other governmental officials, community groups, and the general public
