What are the responsibilities and job description for the GNC Engineer position at Anka Space?
We are seeking a GNC Engineer to develop and implement the flight control systems for our reusable rocket prototype. This role focuses on creating software that enables real-time flight stability, guidance, and autonomous landing using thrust vector control (TVC) and sensor fusion. You’ll work closely with the avionics, propulsion, and mechanical teams to deliver flight-ready control systems.
Responsibilities
- Flight Control Design: Develop real-time control algorithms for stability, hover, and landing.
- TVC Algorithms: Implement thrust vectoring logic for gimballed engine control.
- Sensor Fusion: Integrate IMU, GPS, barometric sensors for precise state estimation.
- GNC Software: Write flight software for embedded systems (STM32, Raspberry Pi, etc.).
- Simulation & Testing: Use MATLAB, Simulink, or Python to simulate GNC behavior before live testing.
- System Integration: Work with propulsion and avionics teams to ensure smooth control system performance during flight.
Qualifications
- U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident
- Degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Robotics, or related engineering field
- Experience developing GNC systems for rockets, UAVs, or autonomous vehicles
- Strong foundation in control theory (PID, LQR, Kalman Filters, MPC)
- Proficient in MATLAB, Simulink, Python, or C
- Experience programming and testing on real-time embedded systems
- Previous involvement in rocket teams, UAV competitions, or real-world autonomous system deployment
